Where are my 5/10k runners/walkers?
I know we have several people who have started running/walking and training for 5 and 10k's, so how is everyone doing?
My update - I signed up for my first 5k race in April, I am on week 5 (day 2) of the C25K. I am able to do the 5k in 40 mins now (started out over an hour!), and I do 4.5 miles in under an hour now. Because I want to do the 10 k, I have been pushing myself above and beyond the C25K, I do this by doing the week I am on, and then following it up with a half hour of the previous weeks program for a total of an hour on the treadmill, I am up to 4.5 miles in 60 mins. I honestly can't wait for the weather to get warm b/c the treadmill is killing, so BORING! (and I hate going to the gym LOL).

I just starting training to walk a 5k next month. It is over a huge steep bridge. Walk over the bridge, turn around and walk back. I'm preparing by setting the treadmill on the steepes incline and trudging along. LOL
Funny, I prefer the treadmill over walking outside. Biking is a different matter, I hate the stationary bike but love riding outside.
I've downloaded C25k but haven't started doing it yet. I just don't feel in shape enough to run yet. :(

I'm training for a sprint triathalon at the end of April, and i'm going to do the Disney Expedition Everest 5K in May (Night 5K in Animal Kingdom). I also plan to do the Tower or Terror 10 Miler in September (Night 10 miler at Hollywood Studios) and a couple of mud runs over the summer (Warrior Dash, Champions Mud Bash, et.c)
i've totally been slacking. the past 2 weeks i've been exhausted and so busy at work, i haven't walked/ran at all. hoping to get back up to speed this weekend and continue with walking/jogging in 1-2 minute intervals. want to do a 5k in april and 10k in august. still plenty of time, i just have to get my ass motivated.
I promised myself to do at least 1 5k per month. I let January slide and did my 5k at the lake (one of our suburbs has a lake that is exactly 3 miles all the way around) instead of a physical event, but I'm okay with that, it's still a 5k, I just didn't pay the $20 entry fee
We do the lake about once per week. I can do it in 50-60 minutes depending on if I'm walking with anyone else and how my day is going. I cannot run yet, I still weigh too much and frankly my knees have taken a beating all these years and I want to give them a chance before I go battering them even worse

I'm doing it very slowly. I usually take 2 weeks to complete one week, if that makes sense, because I don't always do all 3 days in a week, sometimes I do other things instead. So, I'm at the end of week 2.
I usually do the C25K for the initial 28 minutes, then I add a few more running intervals or walk briskly at an incline until I hit 45 minutes. If I have time, I lift weights for 20 to 30 minutes afterwards.
I can say that the running intervals are beginning to feel more natural, and my stride seems to match about 5.2 mph when I'm running on the treadmill, which is a lot more than the 4.0 mph that I started with. It feels kind of awkward to run outside instead of running on the treadmill -- I think I run even faster outside, because I have long legs. When I run outside, I don't do the C25K, I just do run/walk intervals with my dog for 40 minutes or so.
I'm going to keep doing it until I finish and can run 5K without stopping, but truly, I enjoy doing different workouts all the time. I am addicted to yoga and do that a few times a week. I'm seeing amazing results with lifting heavier at the gym, and the elliptical is my stand-by when I don't feel like doing anything else. I seem to do best when I mix it up a bit. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather that starts here in March, so I can add swimming back in the mix, too.

LOL at karma! She will get you when you aren't looking. I was on a roll there for awhile, and you are right, it was only when I really started working out hard that that consistent loss really stopped. Sounds like you might be on to something!
I did week 3 of the C25K three times before I felt comfortable enough to move on to the next level, and now I have to say that I am honestly intimidated by what Week 5, Day 2 has in store for me tonight and the next one is even crazier (2 miles or 20 mins with no walking!), I am tempted to just do Day 1 over again, but I am almost curious to see if I can hack it and get though the harder one. I figure if I can't, I will just skip it back a bit until I feel ready.
You have to listen to your body! I really miss my Wii Yoga (my kids broke the Wii!) it was really great on my days "off". Now I have to find something else, a friend suggested 30 Day Shred, but Jillian Michales literally makes me want to kick a puppy.

I took a 2 month break from running, but I ran 2 miles yesterday just under 26 min, so that was good for me. Just need to go further and faster...lol.
Im thinking of a 5K in March, 10k in like June time, and then 1/2 marathon on september. But, my running has taken a back seat to cycling, so i need to step it up.
