Alcohol and VSG...
Some of this I posted earlier, as a reply to a post about alcohol cosumption at 1 month out.
I thought it was worth repeating in a post of it's own.
As an empty nester. I can say coctails are a pretty common thing in our household. We are not irresponsible with our drinking habits nor does it interfere with our lives.
But after surgery, I found the following to be true.
You don't need those calories yet!
Pretty soon, sooner than you may think, this honeymoon period will be over.
Then you will have to WORK at getting those last pounds off. You will have to seriously cut out those empty calories to get to goal.
It will be a WHOLE LOT EASIER if you give your body the edge by not starting this early.
For now just avoid them. Plenty of time for that later.
I love me a good ****tail, but I can attest to the fact that those calories are seriously hindering my weight loss efforts at this stage of the game.
I just wish I had waited until I got to goal before adding evening ****tails to my diet.
So I've sworn off the sauce until I get to goal...(sigh).
Note* Just because you can eat/drink something....doesn't mean you should. Keep your eye on the ball.
Cheers

Donna......
I just wanna say that I am always impressed with you..... none of us has a perfect textbook journey..... It's how we fine tune our aim on what seems to be a moving target.
We all take a similar path at first and we either grow into it...or grow out of it.....I've seen you really come into your own and now you unselfishly share what you have learned !!!!
Big props to you !

good to know. I am just over 3 months out, and have had a glass of wine on about 3 occasions. I don't really miss the drinking, I made it thru Christmas without any difficulty without drinking. I am going on holidays in Mexico in end of March and am wondering what to substitute for my margaritas? I will bring down my crystal light singles and will drink them for the most part I guess.
I have done this to substitute for the high sugar drinks:
Glass of ice
1/2 water
1/2 Citron flavored vodka
1 packet of spenda (or more to taste)
Squeeze 1/2 lemon into glass and stir.
Adding water lowers how many calories are in the drink and adding lemon disguises the water LOL.
When I go to the bar I just ask for Absolute Citron and water on ice with lots of lemon on the side....I bring my own splenda.
Just make sure you lay off the empty calories when you get back home.
Cheers,
donna

I couldn't agree with you more....
As a side note, I avoided alcohol not only for the empty calories, BUT during the rapid weight loss phase our livers are working double time. My thought process was "why task my liver with breaking down booze as well?" I might be a bit more protective of my liver than others, but part of the decision to have my guts altered to lose weight was to gain health. It's great to lose weight, but no way was I going to blow my liver in the process all for the sake of having a drink or few.
