My surgery date is 04/16/12 and I am walking to get in the exercize. My legs and back hurt so bad, but I just keep going. I am wondering at this stage of the game should I also be strength training too? I have never lifted a weight in my life. I know weight training is important too but have no idea where to start. I am determined to do what is correct. Vets please let me know. Thanks you so much. Hugs,  Sharon

I am no vet on this topic but I am sure getting started with strength training will help core muscles for sure  and it sure as heck wont hurt.  3 months before my surgery I started at the gym with strength training and lost a bit of weight right away.  I was 380 when i started and day of surgery I was 350 today I weigh in at 288 and yes i believe the training helped me heal and I didn't have any pain just a little discomfort.

Suppose you can do it now....wouldn't hurt?.  After your sleeve...wait till you are cleared by your doc....4-6 week for most.   One BIG..piece  of advice......consult/hire a personal trainer.(many gym's offer free or discount consults/sessions when you join)  If you have never lifted weights before they can be intimidating....also you may injure yourself with improper technique  good luck!

Thanks for the good advise. I think I'll try a stretch band instead of weights. Sharon
