Constipation

I will be 8 weeks out tomorrow and constipation has set in for the last week. I have tried a daily dose of Miralax for the last three days and Milk of Mag today with very little results. Anyone else have this problem, and any suggestions??

Very common problem. I wasn't having much luck with the other stool softeners/laxatives and the taste of some of them is just down right gross. Someone on this board suggested Smooth Move Tea and it has worked wonderfully well for me. I find it in my local Kroger grocery store in the section where the organic foods and supplements are shelved. It isn't that expensive - about $5 for 16 tea bags. I have a cup every other night to keep relatively regular while I'm building fiber into my diet.

Good luck to you.

This is very common following VSG.  When you've been approved to do so, make sure you are adding fiber to your diet.  Since we eat protein first and have very little room for veggies (roughage), it's easy to have issues.  If you can't eat your fiber, there are also supplements that you can take, such as Benefiber.

Just curious, I see this posted a lot...what is Nut? Just wondering what it stands for  ?

I am very constipated and the only thing that has ever helped me was two of the Fiber One bars, but they are very high in sugar. I am thinking about eating them any way just to get things moving. Can eating high sugar just this once ruin things big time??

Me too! ! I have a bottle mag citrate in the fridge, debating whether to use it. In the meantime, doing a Miralax protocol (few times a day), adding extra water. I also have been in a stall for a week, I'm thinking it's related. I'll be 8 Weeks later this week

I have my entire life, ugh, but with the VSG the constipation hasn't caused the normal pain until this weekend.  Miralax can work great, but three days isn't really enough if your doing a single dose.  I take one cap a day just to be "normal", but my doc said the reduced diet its ok to go longer in between.
Like someone else mentioned, to clean out with miralax you have to do more like 3 caps a day.  Just make sure your around a bathroom!

Worse comes to worse, you can try an enema, get things moving and then the one cap a day of the miralax.  Got to get your fluids in!

This is all from my own experience and what my doc has ok'd...  Everyone is different though!

Warm Green Tea.  And make sure you have more than enough water.  I was having some issues and a friend of mine suggested that I drink at least half my body weight in ounces of water.  Havent had a problem since then with that.
