An Update...
Hello there fellow OHers!
First let me say that I am so glad that I found this board and am able to read the many responses, get advice, support, and see how great everyone is doing with their WL journey.
When I first joined the board I asked a few questions, read a little, and off I went to figure out how MY journey was going to begin from here. I got some great advice and even met one of my OH friends at my first support group meeting.
Since then I have been working to bring my BMI down (must get to 60 or less before surgery) and change my life for the better in anticipation of surgery. I think I have done pretty well so far and so I wanted to just give a little update as to where I am in this journey currently and ask for all of your support, prayers, good thoughts, and any more advice that you can give me before my sleeve birthday!
2/27 - Info Session @ Lake Norman Center for Surgical Weight Loss
3/9 - Initial Consult with Dr. Heider - Weight 450.5 lbs
3/20 - Started making life long changes in terms of food/exercise (pre-op diet)
4/10 - Physical therapy, psych eval, and first NUT consult - Weight 429.0 lbs
4/18 - First support group meeting (required pre-op)
4/30 - Joined gym - Weight 418.8 lbs
5/4 - Yearly physical w/my PCP - Weight 415.6 lbs
5/8 - First appointment w/fitness trainer - Weight 417.6 (DAMN YOU TOM/WATER WEIGHT!)
5/11 - Packet sent to insurance for approval. APPROVAL RECEIVED SAME DAY!
**Experienced what I believe to be my first WL stall during the next few weeks**
5/21 - Began liquid diet *sigh*...
TODAY - 3rd appointment w/trainer - Weight 411.2 (I am SOOO gonna kick these 400s outta here and get down to 372 in no time!)
So here I sit with a BMI down to 66.4 from 72.7 and I have my next appointment with my surgeon next Wednesday then my endoscopy next Friday, June 1. At this point I am anticipating surgery sometime in middle or end of June but definitely prior to my 30th birthday this summer.
I am confident that I am going to ROCK THIS THING OUT because I am very proud of me (if I do say so myself) for what I have accomplished so far.
From what I see from the outside looking in it's a beast trying to restrict your calories and intake PRIOR to having the sleeve which is what puts so many of us here in the first place. Right now I know it's nothing but willpower (any maybe some harnesses if it gets bad enough) from keeping me from blowing all the work that I have done for one salacious and decadent [insert ridiculous, carby, fattening, greasy, and completely horrible for you food here]. But even more than that, it's the mindset, the new attitude, and the excellent way that I feel having lost nearly 40 POUNDS BEFORE someone had to cut out over 50% of my stomach.
It lets me realize that I CAN DO THIS. It shows me that I WILL DO THIS.
And as LONG as I can continue to come on here and find support, encouragement, help, advice, funny anecdotes, and other people who have been where I am and made it to the other side...I KNOW that I will soon myself be sitting on that coveted loser's bench.
Welp...thanks for reading...feels good to get out how I felt and I am truly excited to take the next step in this journey and make it all real. I'm off to beat the dickens out of my Mom for waiting until now to fix her hamburger patty for dinner whilst I enjoy this protein shake...

I guess she can't starve herself though...it's not reasonable to expect two b**chy, angry, black women in one household...recipe for WWIII! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

WOW! You have already lost over 40 lbs. even before surgery. That's amazing. You should definitely be proud of that accomplishment. You have already proven that you can get through the pre-op liquid diet with willpower alone. After surgery its a breeze and you will do great! Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.
