Not Worth It - Angry Rant about crappy sleeve
I really recommend that you talk to the psychologist associated with your program, because you are in a world of hurt and anger right now. I think that your expectations are letting you down and this entire journey is a process and the outcome isn't known within the first few weeks or months. All the preparation in the world cannot prepare one for the reality of the first few weeks/months. You are fortunate that you are able to get your fluids down. Meat and veggies at this point in time, I hope were pureed.
I hope that some of the anger and disappointment are caused from the flooding of hormones from your fat cells. Everyone on this board prepared for this journey and not everyone has had an easy time of it. If you can control yourself from eating the wrong things now, it serve you well down the road, when success becomes more about your choices than the surgery. The VSG is only a tool to help you to get to where you want to be. Give it a chance. It is way too early to say that the surgery has been a failure. Let us know how things have changed in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year from now.

If surgery is what it took to "control" yourself and not run to McDonalds then yay for you.
You are only 2 weeks out. I'm only just over a month out. I've never felt much restriction. I didn't lose anything for nearly 2 weeks after I started mushies. Your body hasn't even had time to recover fully yet.
I honestly think you need to seek some therapy. If you take that as me judging you then you DEFINITELY need to seek therapy.
I adore my therapist.
If it were as simple as me just telling myself I won't do this or won't do that I wouldn't have had surgery. I would have just said no.
17 lbs in 2 weeks is awesome.

i think i can relate to what you are talking about. sometimes it is hard to grasp the concept of how this surgery is going to work.
a few years back when i first tired having te surgery i lost close to 50 pounds in a month with the pre-op diet guidelines i was given. and then to see a lesser amount in weightloss after surgery like you have, it would be dishartening.
but dont get frustrarted, it is very soon after your surgery.
i am like you, sometimes i feel like i can just drink and drink, and i ask myself where is the restriction, but then there are some other things that i put into my pouch and i am completly stuffed in less then a minute. it is all relative.
with all that being said, i dont know how this is gonna end. all i know its that i have to follow the guidelines given to me by my doc and his team. i saw the images on screen of how small my stomach is. it is real. you just have to let it work. i dont think that you were "not ready for this surgery" i think you were not ready to give up control. and i can relate to that too.

Vent away. I'm all for a good whiny ***** session. I had one earlier this week myself.
The reason why you got the negative reaction you did from some people is for a few reasons.
First, you blame your sleeve for no restriction when you are a couple of weeks post op and eating/drinking stuff that runs right through us. Truth is, you have no clue if you have restriction and you won't until you get to dense protein and then the restriction is going to rock your naive world. I mean naive in a nice way. No one truly knows what to expect until they get there.
Second, you, like so many other newbies, didn't research restriction. Tons of stuff comes up on it.
Your're newly sleeved and you're ready to give up. Because of no restriction. Really?
When I left the hospital I was drinking 64 oz of water a day (it took all day and most of the night). I was able to get in enough shakes to meet my mins for protein in less then a week post surgery. I handled mushies without a problem. I started dense protein and holy cow!
My suggestion is to take a deep breath and see what happens when you start dense proteins.
FYI - we've ALL lost weight because of our own self control. WE ALL have to do the rest ourselves. The Sleeve is just a tool.

Ditto everything that Slimpickins just said.
I didn't see anything that was meant to be judgmental here. We all understand perfectly clearly what your frustration here is, because most of us have felt exactly what you're talking about. But the part that you don't seem to be hearing, and I'm going to say it again in case you still haven't heard it, is that nothing you should be consuming right now will make you feel any significant amount of restriction. Wait until you get to try chicken. Or steak. If you still don't feel restriction when you eat dense protein in a few more weeks, then we'll talk about that. But right now, you have a lot of people who are trying to explain this to you, and you're too angry to hear them.
It's okay to be frustrated. It's okay to be emotional. We've all been there for one reason or another. But if you're going to post here, people are going to assume that your post means you are looking for feedback, and when you don't listen to that feedback, people tend to get a bit frustrated.
And again, Slimpickins is absolutely right... we ALL have to exercise self control if we're going to lose the weight and keep it off, even with the restriction. I can eat around my sleeve if I choose to... there are all kinds of bad food choices I could be making that will go right through me and I will feel no restriction. As long as I CHOOSE to stay away from those items and adhere to the ones that do fill me up, I'm in good shape. But it still takes self control.

No judgment.....just a couple comments.....
- Most that rely on restriction.....don't do so well in the long run........
- I'm over 2.5 years out and have practiced under eating from the start by eating fixed amounts of foods.....
- Were you oversold ?
In reality it's possible you could have a huge sleeve....... I'd wait for about the 2 month mark to have your surgeon check you out for capacity. The VSG is not standardized......
At 6 weeks I was eating a half of a scrambled egg....
At 2.5 years out I eat 2-3oz. meals just under my capacity.
