hi Peeches,

I'm wondering if you are setting off your hunger by your ratio of carbs to protein.  It seems to me your carb level may be too high.  I looked up a 1/2 cup serving of oatmeal and it has 14 grams of carbs and only 2 grams of protein.

The levels we are supposed to be aiming for are these:  Eat 600-800 cals. until goal. Eat 70+ g. of protein, and stay under 40g. of carbs.

An easy way to keep track of where you are at is to log your foods in myfitnesspal.com.  It does all the calculations for you.

As for the liquid in your mouth, it may be acid reflux.  Are you taking an antacid?

thank you so much for the advice ithink am having more then 40 carb thats what spark people says... I am taking this med.....
LANSOPRAZOLE (lan SOE pra zole) prevents the production of acid in the stomach. It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, certain bacteria in the stomach, inflammation of the esophagus, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. It can also be used to prevent and treat ulcers in patients taking medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

I fell asleep last night and did not take it I did take it this morning, am going to cut down on the carbs and up my protien thank you again and god bless you

Just a side note--it's really important that we go by what our own team directs us to do, not a generic or someone else's post op plan for ratios of nutrients. Plans can be quite a bit different  even if you have  the same team working with you.
I can eat a lot more than I think I should be able to BUT if I eat only solid protein that is vastly reduced. If you give me chicken salad, it's ON. If I choose a piece of white meat chicken, I'm much more limited :)

It's more likely an issue with what you are eating instead of a leak.  With a leak stomach contents would be leaking into your abdomen instead of out o your mouth.

With what you listed above I would note the following:

Breakfast:  Oatmeal is a bad choice.  It's high volume, high carb, low protein.  Try a high protein source like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.

Lunch:   Barbecue Chicken - restaurant or homemade.  How was the BBQ sauce made?  A lot of barbecue sauces have either molasses or brown sugar as the key ingredient to give it that sticky sweet favor.  Also, we're you eating breast met or dark meat?  The breast is really lean and a great source of protein, the dark meat is really flavorful - but very much more fat

Dinner:  sounds ok deepening on how the fish was prepared.  A fried catfish would e a no-no but a baked or grilled tilapia or other lean fish would be fine.

How many calories are you getting per day?  How much protein?  At nine weeks out I was eating pretty much what I at today.  Sam amounts and variety.  Are you tracking somewhere like MFP?  If so friend me and share your dirty, I would be happy to take a look.  My dirty is open to my friends.

Sorry for multiple replies, OH is messing up on my IPad.

For the head hunger issues, first take an antacid like omeprazole daily.  I was having what I thought was hunger, but was really mild reflux.  I never had a lot of acid problems before surger so was confusing the acid feeling with physical hunger.

The first thing I do when I start feeling the need to eat, and it's off my plan is to stop and question myself before I give in.  Why am I doing this?  Why do I need to eat?  Am I really hungry or is there something else going on?

Then I will try a few different things:

1.  Redirection - turn the impulse to something else, Sipping water, using my dumbbell, tidying up, etc.

2.  Avoidance - remove myself from the situation causing me to want to eat, go for a walk, get out of the house, step away from my desk for a little bit, etc.

3.  Feel and Deal - if I'm eating emotionally, let myself feel what I am feeling and learn to deal with that emotion.

Hope this helps.

Chalk it up as a learning experience and grow from it. Some of us have a tighter restriction feeling while others doo not. You can stretch it out somewhat if you overeat. One of the best pieces of advice that the veterans told me early on was that you need to measure what you eat and then stop. It doesn't matter whether you feel stuffed or not; if your restriction is two ounces then eat that or less and stop. Also, remember after an hour or so from your meal you need to take in your liquids. So if you eat your meal and 1 to 2 hours later start drinking liquids, this will not only feel you but replace your eating spells.

These experiences after surgery just go to show that it is nothing more than a tool. If we don't work hard to identify why we eat too much and what lead to our obesity than we will not succeed. You are already ahead of the game because you recognize the problem. Now fight mad hard to fix it. You CAN DO IT!!!!

Hi Peeches,

After reading your post, you are eating way to many carbs.  I am 2 years out and I still do not eat oatmeal (by choice).  That's to soon for oatmeal, to heavy on your stomach.  You need to stick with high protein foods for breakfast:  greek yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, or have a protein drink.  BBQ chicken tastes good but your stomach doesn't sound like it's tolerating it to well.  Could be to much sugar in the sauce, stick with baked or boiled chicken it's much easier on your stomach.
I was the same way with head hunger until I realized that it is just head hunger.  It's not an easy thing to deal with but when you realize that you are not actually hungry find something else to eat or do.  Have an extra protein drink, or water, or go outside for a walk - something to take your mind off of food.
You can get through this it's hard but when you see the results it's all worth it.  Like I mentioned I am a little over 2 years out I have my moments when I go off and eat way to many carbs but I get right back into eating my protein - when I see that scale starting to inch up I know I am going in the wrong direction.

You need to keep a diary of what you are eating and you need to measure out your food and keep track.  That's the only way all of this works!  Keep in touch and if you need to talk you can reach my at my email:  [email protected]
