I have been doing pretty good on tracking my food intake with the help of mfp and drinking more water than I ever have in my whole entire life! My preop appointment with my surgeon was one month ago and I weighed 224lbs and today I weigh 213lbs, YAY! Anyways, I noticed for five days I didnt drink enough water and I didn't loose any weight and my calories had stayed the same averaging 1000-1200 per day. My question is since I have been drinking at least 100oz of water per day by drinking it ice cold with a straw and downing it fast, Will I ever be able to drink like that post op? I know I can only sip in the beginning, but how long was it before you can take bigger sips of water? I know drinking all this water has contributed greatly in my current weight loss. Thank you.  I drink mine cold with a straw.and can drink a 16.9 oz bottle in about 10 minutes.drinking lots of water helps stop your body retaining water.

I am 7 weeks out and I can take bigger swallows of water. But if I drink it too fast I get a cramp in my chest. It will get better each and every day.

I am about 5 months out now, and I can drink normal like I did before surgery. Sometimes when I workout and try to drink fast my chest hurts for a second, but thats the only time.

Thank you. Yay, So it does get easier. I am averaging about 5 of 24oz per day. I Love ice cold water! That's all I drink. I know most people on here can't tolerate ice cold water when they are recently post op. I really hope that is not the case for me, if so, BOO! Lol. I really do NOT like temperature water.

I'm a little over a year out and today I took too big of a gulp of my tea, less than a minute later I was standing over my sink vomiting up said tea...

Moral of the story? While I can take bigger sips, I still have to be careful how big. And just because you can does NOT always mean you should.

I am so glad you asked. I am a week post-op and I'm struggling to drink enough water. I am drinking less than 30oz a day. Before I could drink a 20oz bottle at once no problem. I can't wait till I am able to drink more at one time.

I'm about 10 months out and still cannot drink too fast. I have just adjusted to drinking a sip at a time.
I think it has a lot to do with how well you treat your sleeve and how much restriction you have.
Some days my restriction is a little looser and I can drink a bigger gulp. some days not.
