 I agree - I wasn't ashamed or embarrassed.

I made the decision and did NOT feel like hearing differing opinions, have people try to change my mind, and it is SUCH a personal decision, I needed time to get my head focused, ready for the lifestyle change, it was a personal decision and I do NOT share my personal decisions

I also did not "share" when we decided to conceive a child... another personal decision ... yep, kept that quiet until I 'showed."  Kept this quiet until it, well, showed as well!!!

I completely agree.  I didn't tell anyone except my immediate family (parents, brother and SIL) and of course my boss prior to surgery.  Now when people ask I tell them.  I get a lot of "wow, that's brave" which makes me laugh a little.  I'm glad for people who were open and upfront prior to surgery and afterwards, it doesn't make the rest of us embarrassed or ashamed.

Good post.

I thought about keeping it a secret before I had it just to stop the naysayers but didn't even do that.

Q1: yes, it's no one's business. My husband, two teens and my parents know. I started dropping weight 4 months before my surgery, so it wasn't a huge shock to people to see me losing because I was already losing. When people ask me what I'm doing to lose weight I tell them I'm eating right and exercising, and that is not a lie :)
