Stall topic again (4 weeks)
Okay, so yesterday was 4 weeks since my surgery. I am STILL at a stall. I have lost and gained the same pound or two for the past two weeks. What's up vets?? Wait it out? I worry that I am stretching my sleeve because I don't eat extremely slow. But I don't usually eat a whole lot.
BUT...
On my list of "can haves" from my surgeon, I can have cheerios or puffed rice cereal this week. I had about a half a cup of cereal with about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of skim milk. I got it all in in one sitting without feeling full. What's up with that?

What other option do you have other than to wait it out? That's pretty much it if you are in this for the long haul. Have a little faith and just keep doing what you need to do.
About the cheerios or puffed rice - really? I mean - i'm all about following your doctors plan - but that's just of your surgeon in my opinion. At 4 weeks post -op, you need protein, not a bunch of empty calories. If you are going to eat, make it something your body actually needs. Now, instead of burning fat, your body is burning carbs for energy.
Important lesson - forget about this concept of feeling full. It's not gonna happen for a while b/c you severed all the nerves when you had your stomach cut up - and you shouldnt be reaching for that point anyways. Eat a pre-measured amount, and be done with it. I still rarely ever have any feelings of being full or resriction unless I really push my limits (usually bread is the only thing that makes we walk away feeling full).

I know it wasn't the best choice. Normally my breakfast is eggs. I love my eggs, but I am wearing them slap out!! I have a hard time with the protein shakes. I can't stand them. I have had such a hard time getting anything in but eggs. I was so excited by the thought of having real cereal. I know there is some protien in the milk.
I was just concerned because I usually get full after a couple of bites of something. It's not that I want to feel full, because it can be miserable. I was just worried about why I didn't because it seemed like a lot of food when I think about it. I know also that I need to keep a food journal. I did that with Weigh****chers, It held me accounable.

Hi there...I am 2 weeks postop and HATE protein drinks also. Pretty much all of the ready to drink shakes make me gag and powders leave an awful aftertaste. I think I have found a solution though. I make protein smoothies instead...they taste like real life smoothies and the Chike brand seems to be good about not having too much of a protein aftertaste!
I use 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 1/2 c 0% Fage Greek yogurt, 1 sample packet of Chike brand protein powder (orange, strawberry, and vanilla are my fave), add frozen fruit of your choice (I like a handful of strawberries, pineapple, and mango), add ice and stevia (if you like is sweeter) and blend away!! The consistency is awesome and it tastes sooooo good. Depending on how much Greek yogurt you add, it comes out to be around 35-40 g protein. So I just split it and drink 1/2 smoothie in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon, then get the rest of my protein from food. Hope this helps

Oh, and I am frustrated with not losing weight too. I lost 9 lbs the first week after surgery, but gained 3 lbs back at the beginning of the second week. The scale hasn't moved since. I'm just going to continue to focus on eating under 40 g carbs, under 800 calorie**** my 60-80 g protein and 64 oz water. I haven't felt restriction either, but i am sure that will come when we start eating dense proteins. For now, just measure out your food and have a plan for the day to avoid snacking. The vets know best! Our bodies can't hold onto this weight forever with as little as we are eating! Good luck!

Hi Jenngirl,
I'm not a vet -- in fact, I'm 3 days behind you but there's no way I could possibly eat a half cup of cereal with that amount of milk. I can barely fit in a quarter cup of anything. And while some cereals are allowed on my plan, if I ate that in the morning, I wouldn't be able to get in all my protein the rest of the day without going way over the calorie limit. Seems every surgeon/nutritionist has a different plan for their patients -- and even different plans for specific patients.
As for your stall, that very well may be water weight from the conversion of fat to glycogen. It takes 4 pounds of water to keep a pound of glycogen soluble, so your tissues may be holding on to water. It's temporary, and while it totally sucks when the scale isn't moving down, you need some glycogen for your muscles. I'm not good with chemistry, but if put in "fat to glycogen" in the search box, you'll find some good explanations. Bottom line: you are right -- you just have to wait it out.
Have you tried changing up your exercise? I can't do much because of the other surgery I had during the sleeve procedure, so I'm worried about the exercise issue and stalls. Maybe a longer work out or a longer walk -- or more frequent exercising?
You'll get beyond the stall and start dropping pounds again soon -- patience in abundance seems to be the order of the day when it comes to stalls.
Good Luck

I'm 6 weeks out and have lost 0 in the past 2 weeks! My protein is at 60-70 and my calories are at 500-600 with carbs staying under 30. I know I need to exercise but since I have a torn meniscus in my left knee it's kinda hard to do anything but arms. I hate waiting it out but that's about all I can do at this point and try to increase my fluids. This is my 2nd stall in 6 weeks so you're not the only one, it happens to us all. Hang in there.

I'm 7 weeks out and at a stall for 2 weeks now too. It sucks but just think about the long term and it will come off. From what I've read on here it happens to almosy everyone around this point.
