Completely OT: Eye Exam Today had Finding with Dialation test

Does anyone here know much about eyes?  My Google-fu is completely failing me.

It's been a few years since my last eye exam.  So I went in and they did they who she-bang, including the dialation test.  I had an intern doing my exam and so he called the doctor in to have a look at some kind of tissue growth on my left optic nerve.

I've never heard of this, but they doctor didn't seem super alarmed.  Although he wanted me to come back and do a field vision test tomorrow.  I had asked if I could wait and do it in 2 weeks when my glasses would be ready, but he said "oh no, get that done right away... before 2 weeks."  So in retrospect, that makes me worry that he was a bit concerned.

Anyone had a finding on a dilation test?  I'm 36, no major eye complaints (just glasses).

I'm trying so hard to stay away from stress eating.  Popcorn is calling to me!!! I think I have to stick with protein drinks today!!

Thanks!

They saw something on my last one, then sent me for a whole battery of tests to see what it was, turned out that as you get older you can get clumps of cells in the eye that darken in color (almost like a freckle), and that is what I had. I had to go back a year later to make sure it hadn't grown any larger and it hadn't and I was released to go on about my business. Hopefully that's all it is for you too!

I had cataracts in both of my eyes from my diabetes being out of control.  I had to get that taken care of so have been back and forth to the eye doctor all summer.
Best of luck with this tomorrow!

I am not sure of how cataracts start out... They said this was an abnormal tissue growth on my optic nerve.

Thank you so much or your reponse - i hope your eyes are much improved now!! That doesn't sound like a very fun summer!

Yeah, I had cataract removal surgery earlier this year for both eyes, then had macular pucker surgery two weeks ago on my left eye.

You can google 'macular pucker" or "retinal wrinkle" to see what I had done.

It only took 12 to 15 minutes per eye for th cataract surgery, and a little over 45 minutes for the macular pucker.

HTH,

Fred

Thanks so much for sharing that info! I hope you and your eyes are doing better now!!

A couple of you now have mentioned cataracts, but i thought that involved the lens. My abnormal tissue is on the optic nerve, not the lens. Am i wrong about the nature of cataracts?

Thank you all for talking with me about it. I already feel less worried.

The macular pucker surgery involves the removal of scar tissue from the macula (the central vision portion of the retina).  If I were you  I'd wait and discuss the situation with your opthamologist.  Just relax until you get more info from your doctor.

Good luck,

Fred
