Sweets........
Everyday for 3 years now I read about people trying to come up with concoctions to simulate sweet things........
Yes, most of us have a desire for sweet. (sugar)
This is true for myself also.......I'd eat Chocolate Cake for breakfast if I could...... and lots of people do....muffins and donuts are about the same thing.....Sugar and Flour.....
One of the things I have had to work on is changing the way I think about sweet. Yes, the reality is that you/we can't cut sweet out completely, but I think we all can cut back on our desire for sweet in general.
Some of these substitutes/replicas can be an easy bridge to the real thing.
Is having a simulated Pan Cakes, Milk Shake, Candy Bar and Fudge Cake in the same day really developing good long term habits????? Sounds like a lot of sugar and/or artificial sweetener.......
Just putting that out there...... I needed to write this so I could read it......

Frisco,
I love a lot of the posts that you write. You are such a positive example for all of us on here.
I personally try not to do artificial sweeteners. The only thing I eat regularly that has Splenda in it is yogurt. I think these sweeteners are just as bad, if not worse, for our bodies.
I personally do not deny myself treats. If I feel like an ice cream cone, I have it. The key is moderation. In my opinion, that is the goal of this surgery. It teaches us to eat "normally" and in moderation. I never knew the meaning of that word until my VSG surgery :)

Let me start with this quote I got from Eggface Weight Loss Surgery is not a DO-OVER (repeat same mistakes = get a similar outcome.) Weight Loss Surgery is a DO-BETTER (make lifestyle changes you can continue forever.)
I TOTALLY agreed with what you said, until 3 years out, the "moderation" thing didn't work for ME and we are all individuals so hopefully it'll work for me. I finally am accepting that I am an addict and as such I need to stir away. I haven't quite figured it all out for sure, but any addict will tell you, they can't just have a shot of booze ie moderation.
I spent many a lifesty change BEFORE I had surgery thinking THIS was it...the magic pill. I can have stuff in moderation and be fine. Well my fine never happened and then I had WLS and thought yet again, moderation I'll be fine, then 3 year moderation stopped working and I wasn't satisfied with just a shot of vodka, I wanted the WHOLE bottle. I'm almost 5 years out and it wasn't until recently that I realized that moderation is part of my "do over" mentality and this time around I NEED to let go and "do better"

I adore this lady and her blog and she talks about all kinds of stuff including different sweeteners http://mariahealth.blogspot.com/
I agree with MsShell. I can't do moderation either, and when I've tried, I go off the wagon. So my rule of thumb is I just don't have them on a daily basis- white stuff, i.e. sugar and flour. Upon occasion, I will have a bite or a taste. I have tried hard to develop these new eating habits, and they work, as long as I stick to them. I don't keep any of the things I know I have no control over in the house. If we go out to dinner, I will taste a dessert. If I want ice cream, we have to drive to the local frozen yogurt place and I will get one scoop.
I don't post often, but I want to thank everyone on this board who came along before I did, because it's thanks to them(MsShell) that I learned. Their mistakes helped me avoid some of the pitfalls, so thank you for your honesty!
