I also think we are in agreement. there needs to be mindful eating.  Overeating healthier foods is still overeating.

Yup Yup......

I cringe when I read about a new peanut butter cookie recipe and someone 2 months out with 200lbs. to lose chimes in saying......."Yah Yah I'm making those tonight!"

You know F you Frisco because I AM mixing a tablespoon of sf pudding mix IN my greek yogurt!!

Seriously it's a balancing act and I know your frustration is when "I just had surgery and I need to figure out how to eat a cookie STILL"

Much love...xoxo

I remember hearing someone at group several months ago talking about pureeing pizza. Sigh. I just don't know what to say because... well, it defeats the whole freaking purpose of surgery.

Everyone is SO different, aren't they? I usually only crave sugar once in a while. Being a girl, there are times when someone better give me a few bites of pie or someone is going to die. I've actually planned for desserts and made them work into my numbers.

I dunno, but I know what you mean. It's a balancing act because I think the biggest part of this journey (and actually this is timely because I was talking to my counselor about this today) is the head. I, personally, think it's way too easy to get WLS right now. The psyche evaluation is a HUGE joke in nearly almost all of the surgeon's offices. I don't think they are doing a service to these folks at all.

ANYWAY, that went off topic, but I do agree with the spirit of what you're saying.

Having said that, my downfall foods are breads and pastas. I'm "lucky" that my stomach hates that stuff now because I could put away some tortillas and breads and pastas and rice before surgery.

I think part of this whole thing (for me) is finding out what foods I need to avoid (either for physical or mental health) and which ones I can truly learn to moderate myself with. I think I do a pretty good job. Yeah, we all screw up some times for sure. And if you find yourself eating too much of that artificial crap, I think that's a whole other problem too.

Hmmm... I'm rambling tonight

Rambling or not, I very much agree with everything you said.

That dark 72% choc, yeah. That's my emergency stash, don't even need it every month .. and I was the same way before surgery- I however know myself and know I can't "stash" Snickers, or milk chocolate.. or caramels! One I've never had a problem with, the other I do.

Good, good bread.. Nope. If I bring it in the house, it's going to get eaten either by me.. or hoisted upon my husband to bring to work to dispatch. I don't buy bread unless I have a way to share it if at all possible. So, needless to say- I've bought bread twice in the last 6mo. It goes down fine, but that too was something I think I stopped eating on a regular basis about a year before surgery. It's been a very gradual shift over the last few years. Well before I really started considering surgery I had started to realize just what I needed to remove/limit from my life and did it. The one area I could not get a handle on was portions, I never had an off switch.

Butterscotch was something else I got out of the house. Weird, I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned the caramels. Not sure what that means since I used to could eat butterscotch chips by the hand full.

Yeah. we do keep bread in the house for the husband and kids and every couple of weeks my 9 year old will make me breakfast, which is usually 1/2 of grilled cheese or eggs and toast. I can eat that bread if it's well toasted as long as I don't eat the whole slice. But, again, I make sure it's planned for and it's not a regular occurance since it does sit weird on my stomach.

Yeah, I think back to the sheer volume of food I could eat and am amazed....

Sugar, particularly connected with chocolate, was my downfall before vsg. Amazingly, while its still appealing, its not that hard for me to pass up these days. Just got out of the sugar/carb habit. But I live in fear it will come back and bite me someday.

These days i struggle with nuts and peanut butter and things like that. I just want to eat bigger amounts of them than I should. But I am grateful to no longer be a hostage to sugar and I really was. I don't care for artificial sweeteners so the sweets i have are fruit and a bit of honey on greek yogurt. thats about it.

Sweets are no longer the big thing. But I still have food issues and recognize how easily I could fall back into the pit of sugar. Gotta be mindful of it.    Thanks for posting this.   Diane

I absolutely agree, it leads me to more cravings.  In fact I read that studies show that because artificial sweeteners are so much sweeter than the actual thing they increase your cravings even more.  Great post for me today, as I'm struggling with sweet cravings, and looking to create good long term habits.
