Regrets?

Hi All,

This is my first post here!  I'm scheduled right now for VSG on Feb. 21 and I'm a self pay.

I've been reading a lot on here soaking up the good and the bad.  Thank you all, I've learned so much from you.  I know I will have many questions, but I wanted to start with a basic one.

Being 100% honest, do you regret having the sleeve?  Does the good outweigh the bad?  Did the doubts you had initially after surgery go away?

Thanks!!

This is LIFE changing...but PLEASE remember...you have to do the work! The sleeve is there to help you...but it won't work unless you work it.

Come here. Share here. Learn here.

You'll be glad you did!!!mail

Peace

You have great questions and I will answer you honestly from my own experience. That first night laying in the hospital pushing the button on my pain pump, yes I cried. I wondered how much I had romanticized the idea of VSG. I cried over food. This lasted for all of 2.5 days. When I got the hang of liquids and walked away from the pain meds, I saw a light at the end of the tunnel. I am now 10 days out and with the exception of no energy I feel great. I was able to  have my fill of game food and found that I shared more time with my family. I no longer have any regrets because like the person before me said, I did this for my life.

I still can't believe I cried over food. SOOOO NOT WORTH IT!

That's my 100% honesty

I went to Mexico and had a VSG by Dr. Kelly. It was the best decision I have ever made. I have not had one regret. I was done Nov.5th 2012 and have lost 26 pounds so far.

My experience was so so positive. I literally had no pain. I had pain and anti nausea meds in my IV every 6 hours and then by day 3(discharged from hospital) I didn't need any.

Of course you have to get use to a new way of eating but it is very simple...just get your water and protein in. Good luck. I know you won't regret it!

It's been almost a month since I've been sleeved and I have my moments where I get frustrated that I can't eat everything I want or I eat too fast and get very uncomfortable... BUT I haven't regretted it for a minute. Yes, my life with food and the relationship I have with it has changed and that does make me depressed at times. But permanently changing that is the only way I would be able to get healthy and actually live my life! I was at the end of my rope and it was either this or end up being 400 pounds and probably unable to walk by the summer. It's saved my life and I will never regret that. Good luck on ur surgery. You'll love it!

The good does outweigh the bad for sure. I had buyers remorse the first week but got over that fast. I think that comes with the territory of had having major surgery and feeling bad. Each day gets better for sure. All it takes to lift those spirits up is watching the scale go down and clothes getting loose to know it was the right thing to do. Even those nsv are a real feather in your cap! As previous poster said you do have to do the work. I don't regret it at all but sometimes get sad at little things we take for granted, at least for me, like being able to enjoy the dinner salad first like everyone else before the meal comes out. Sipping with meals or just being able to finish a fish filet lol. No regrets - surgery was July 24, 2012 and I'm down almost 80 pounds and into 16 pants, lg-Xl tops from - 26/28 and 3xl.

I'll be a year out on 2/22 and am 7 pounds from my goal weight.  I've lost 78 pounds.  My only regret is that I waited so many years to have the surgery!

the first two weeks for me after surgery were hell. I had some down times after that, of course, when I would get sick after eating too fast (I'm a slow learner)!  But the day I fit into a size 12 jeans I called my mother from the store dressing room and cried.  The absolute feeling of liberation - 0f being able to go to Macy's and just buy a pair of jeans off the rack - was one of the highlights of my journey.  I now wear a size 6 or 8 jeans, depending on the brand.

VSG changed my life, and it will change yours too. Just be prepared for the ups and downs, and ride them out.

Good luck!

Hell no!! I only regret waiting till I was 40 instead of getting it done when I was 30.

Even with my hair falling out by the handful every morning at the moment, I much prefer putting on my smaller clothes and having people call me skinny! (Im soooo not skinny yet, but compared to what I was, Im practically supermodel waif-like!)
