My preop clears start today and my surgery is on Thursday. I have underlying anxiety disorder (well controlled for the most part). I'm not so anxious about the actual procedure, but about what the first few days/weeks will look like and the uncertainty of it all. Do I feel so blessed for the opportunity? Yes! Do I know (logically) I will be happier and healthier in a few months? Yes! I'm just struggling and I would love to know how you got yourself through the rough times at first. What are some things I can write down and repeat to myself through this?

Thanks as always for your posts, support, etc.

Hi!

I suffer anxiety and panic issues. I can really only tell you how I got thru that pre-op anxiety, and the overwhelming feeling of what will happen post-op. Those of us that suffer this, know that our FEAR of the unknown, and the waiting...is the most raw form of anxiety...and this is where we feel like we're going to explode with it. Am I right?indecision

OK...I don't know you, and those who are familiar with me know that I don't preach, but you asked....

My two things that got me thru the anxiety:

1) Lots of Xanax

2) GOD/ prayer.

I really leaned into these for the 7 days prior to surgery. What's meant to be is meant to be. Put my faith and trust in my DOcs and pray GOD would lead the way...all the way. Only thing that got me thru pre-op...and hospital stay.

I'm total of 118 down...and loving how my life and outlook has changed.

I still have a anxiety...but I have better ways to manage now.

You'll get thru this and join many on the other side!

Deep breaths!!

Peace

~Deb

Thank you so much! How difficult we're the first few days? Did they give you Xanax in the hospital?

Xanax and yoga is what helps with my anxiety. I don't use the xanax anymore except for emergency panic attacks at this point in my life. Whichi s nice. You'll be fine. Trust yourself and your doctors. Do let them know you have AD and they'll take care of you. xoxo

When you're up to your ass in alligators, it's difficult to remind yourself that your initial objective was to drain the swamp!

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

If you are at Peace with your decision, then you will be fine.  I'm sure that is hard to deal with but just keep telling yourself this is SAVING YOUR LIFE! Good Luck

My surgery is on Thursday too! I understand what you are feeling. I spent some time reading my Bible and praying last night. That really helped me a great deal. The Bible tells us to be anxious for nothing and to trust in the Lord. That's what I'm doing and I hope you can too! We are making educated decisions that will change our lives for the better.
