Hi, quick question ; Are self payers generally required to attend the weight loss seminars that are usually affiliated with their particular surgeon?

as far as i know yes, seminar has to do with the different elements of surgery not just the financial aspect of it.

Hi,

At my clinic, everyone was required to attend the general information meeting before they could set up the first appointment.  I don't know how other places operate.  Welcome to the forum and good luck on your journey.

Yip, I was required to do that, although only one "introduction to WLS" seminar plus a psych evaluation.

I would think anyone considering any sort of weight loss surgery, regardless of how they pay for it, would be required to attend the seminar held by their prospective surgeon.  You learn about the various options, the risks and benefits of each one, and why surgery is a viable option for those seeking to lose weight.  The financial aspect of it was the shortest and most concise part of the seminar I attended.

I was self-pay. I didn't have to do the seminar because I had attended one two years prior with my surgeon, but he does require it along with the nut and psyche and usual labs, tests, etc.

I just got to skip the 3-6 month diet thing :)

It is the first step for my surgeon regardless of payment method.  It is just an efficient use of their time. They get to cover the bases for a large number of people at once. The seminar is how I learned about VSG.
