I colored mine at about month 3, hoping to beat the "hair loss" stage, but my stylist said I was already losing a lot of hair. I don't think it caused much extra hair loss, but its hard to tell.
My hair is fine and thin, and my part line is much more prominent than before. I'm not seeing new growth yet either. I'm hoping the hair loss will end soon. I wish someone could assure me it will! But when I searched old messages, the estimates ranged from 2 to 9 months of hair loss. sigh...
I think your new shag cut will look great. You are reinventing yourself to match your new look and energy!
best wishes,
Carol

Color shouldn't cause any more damage. Now if you were doing highlights and bleaching I'd give you a different answer. I've been losing hair since month 2 and it's really picked up this month. Not clumps and handfuls like other people have reported, but way more than normal...and it's quite noticeable.
I got my hair cut short and colored it last month. I think the color plumps up the hair and makes it look thicker. Or at least that's the story I'm telling myself
I agree with everyone who has posted thus far......even the comment about the red!
My surgery is not scheduled until 10/2 but I've been experiencing hair loss for the last year because of hyperthyroidism due to Graves. Both the condition and the meds cause hair loss. It's a no win kind of thing! LOL (Perhaps I'll be bald after surgery and have an excuse to put on a different wig every day, that would be a hoot!) With fine hair also, I've found that a shorter cut with layers really adds volume and a lovely bounce that makes me forget all about the hair loss and concentrate on how much I love my hair.
Your new cut will be lovely and I wish you the very best of luck in you continued journey.
