Gwen, I'm so sorry about your Dads health & the emotional toll I know it's taking on you.  My Dad was on his death bed 5 years ago from a botched gall bladder surgery; his Doc told us he wouldn't make it through the night but praise God he did, he still has complications & problems & pain but he's my rock & I've always looked up to him for being so strong & hard working & even more so now as he lives with pain but makes it through each day working on something all the time &with a positive attitude.  I pray things will get better for your Dad & you & I'll bet your weight has come off more from your exercise with your Mom.  As others have posted above, you are a great daughter.

With God ALL things are possible! VSG 3/13/14 Dr. John Mathews

How awesome is it that you are able to help your parents out and a fabulous bonus about the walking. Don't sweat the crackers. I doubt you'll see anything discouraging on the scale, especially since you walked so much.

These things are part of life, and we aren't perfect. Just get back into your healthy routine and next time pack some snacks for yourself that you are more comfortable with.

Thinking of you and your family!!

Thanks - I joke with my mom that I'm earning my inheritance ;)  I'm really glad that I'm able to help them as much as I've been able to.

I'm sorry about your dad.

Do not stress about a few crackers -- it is good to recognize it, but not beat yourself up.  The walks with your mom sound great.  It can be a nice way to see your growth and the benefits of all the hard work.

Enjoy your rest.  It is great you can be there to support your parents!!

GL tomorrow on the scale -- I need some luck tomorrow too!

Thank you so much.  The walks with my mom were really wonderful.  I like this new person I'm turning into :D

And the scale showed me favor - down 1.9 lb!  I hope your scale is kind to you as well.

Last week my dad had some health issues and my mom asked me to come help out.  So I did.  I've been in PA with my parents since Friday evening and I just got home this evening (Wednesday).  I love helping my parents out when they need me and I love being able to, but this week trip was hard.  My parents are both worried and scared, my dad is angry, and I was not well prepared for being out of my normal routine.  (My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last fall, so I've been up there a lot since then to help out during chemo weeks.)

The bad: Aside from the aforementioned emotional stuff.  My dad snacks a lot and it's really triggery for me.  So I ate crackers a few times with him.  Only a few, but I definitely had willpower issues.  I also had scale issues - or the lack thereof - so I haven't been able to weigh myself since last Friday.  I ordered a scale for their house, but I'm an idiot and forgot to change the shipping address, so it went to my house instead.  Grr. I'll have it for next time at least.  It's been hard for me to be out of my routine, eating crackers, and have no scale.  I'm positive that I've gained a billion pounds and I'm starting to dread weighing myself tomorrow.  Feeling like this is horrible.  I slept miserably while I was away too.  Sigh.  It was just a very challenging trip all around.

The good: There was some good.  My mom has always been a pretty active person and she has always wanted me to go for walks with her but I never have because I knew that it would be miserable.  I'd need to stop, I'd slow her down, I'd die, etc.  But while I was there this time she suggested that we go for a walk together and I said yes!  I think she almost had a heart attack.  And we went for a walk Sunday night and I could keep up with her!  And I didn't need to stop!  And I didn't die!  And it was amazing!  So we did it again on Monday and Tuesday night!  Close to 2.5 miles each night in about 53 minutes (with hills).  I feel like this has caused my relationship with my mom to level up.  She's so happy that I can walk with her and I think it was the highlight of her week as well as mine.  She told me about a billion times each day how successful I am, how great I look, and how awesome I'm doing - she's pretty freaking proud of me.

And now I'm home until next Wednesday when I need to go back for a few days.  But first I'm going to sleep for 12 hours and try to get some sort of normality back in my life.  Keep your fingers crossed for me tomorrow morning when I'll be stepping on the scale.

With all that walking I'm sure you didn't gain a billion pounds. Maybe five hundred million pounds lol. Seriously, Gwen, you are a good soul and your mum and dad are proud of you. And you should be too.

Please don't call yourself an idiot.

Thank you very much.  And you're right, I shouldn't call myself an idiot.  I should try to show myself more kindness, even when I mess up.
