Number of Meals
I am still pre-op, but my NUT says 5-6 meals per day: B, S, L, S, D, S (optional).
She wants me to continue like this even after surgery. Says that spacing it out like this helps keep the body fueled and minimizes hunger.

I'm one of those three-meals, two-snacks people. As others have said, without those snacks it can be difficult to 1) get the necessary protein in; and 2) make it through the day energy-wise, especially on the days when I work out. I've given thought to trying to take it down to three meals, but this seems to work well for me. I'm fortunate in that I have a flexible schedule and so I can eat those meals and snacks when they work for me, so long as there's three-hour intervals.
I'm over 3 months out now and I do 3 main meals (150-200 calories each) and then I do 2-3 snacks a day (100 calories or under - usually a string cheese, a sugar free popsicle, sometimes a chobani yogurt bite).
I believe my nutritionist would like me to eventually get to just 3 meals a day, no snacking, but I find that this is working for me at the moment, especially since I'm working out at least 1.5 hours 5-6 days a week.
I've tried every version with the band, with a slipped painful band, and I've thought a lot about what I will do now, and I have devoured menus of successful people, and I was once one of them. Lowcarb high protein all the way...when I'm losing or maintaining.
My surgeon says he prefers 3 meals and no more than one snack a day long term. BUT he said if I'm measuring and eating 5 equal meals a day which are all snack sized and calories monitored, then it's the same. He said do what works best for me, and don't overeat.
