Another surgery for me!

Too bad it  wasn't for plastics....but, the old gallbladder needs to come out. It's full of stones. I go September 11th and he is aiming for  laparoscopic. But, he feels it's going to be a war zone in there with the leak surgeries. So, he said be prepared to wake up opened! :( It was comforting he is good friends with my sleeve surgeons. I feel I will be in good hands!

I am sorry to hear that.  I too have had my gall bladder removed, but it was before the VSG surgery.  Be prepared for an extended recovery if it's going to end up open.  I hope that it goes off without any issues and they can do it safely and keep it lap for you.  Most importantly, I hope it's safely done and is over before you know it.  Good luck.

It's amazing that your gall bladder held out this long. I too had to have mine removed as there was a very neatly layed rock wall of stones. Dr Birch said it looked like stone work on a fire place. For me it happened at about  the 18 month mark.

Hopefully for recovery purposes you won't have an open cut. Dr Birch thought the same for me but lucky it was done laparoscopic with just 1 extra cut.

Wishing you all the best.

Keelan.

Why is it that so many people who have wls need to eventually have their gall bladder removed?  I keep hearing of both sleevers and bypass patients who have had to be rushed in for emergency surgery due to gall bladder problems.  It's got to be more than a coincidence.  Does anyone know the relationship?

Actually, the surgeon says... A lot of us may have stones before without knowing! Then they become more active afterwards.

Im honestly not sure of the technicals, but its also common for women after giving birth for the gall bladder to go when they lose a lot of weight suddenly. I had attacks after my first child and didnt know what they were. After the second birth, they sent me to the ER. I had dropped about 40 pounds very rapidly. Hence, same thing with WLS...rapid WL.

From everything I'm researched it's because many after WLS go the low/no fat way of eating.  Like another poster said I kept fat.  Preop my gallbladder had sludge (soon to be stones based on my doctor).  Contrary my gallbladder is stone/sludge free and I'm almost 7 years post op.

Donna - sorry that you have to go through yet another surgery :-(  Hope it goes smoother than the doctor anticipates and that you're on the road to recovery soon!
