Home from GenCon
Overall, GenCon this year was awesome. I got over 3000 Nike fuel every day except Sunday and, on Sunday, I got around 2500. Lots of activity and walking, even aside from my run in the gym on Sunday. And, wtf, I went to the gym on Sunday. Even if I had time in my schedule in the past for such a thing, it never would have crossed my mind. Ever. But I did it this time.
My body felt so much better than it ever has at any event. By the end of the day my right foot was giving me a lot of grief, but I added in a second tramadol in the evenings and that dampened the pain enough for me to sleep at least. I'm pretty sure that's just due to the new inserts - they can take 6-8 weeks to adapt to. If I'm still having foot pain at the end of September, I'll go back to the podiatrist. My legs, though, felt great. Sure, I felt tired, but no pain like I've had in the past. Really, if I had to find a word to describe how I felt, I'd choose mellow. It was a great feeling.
I had a few weird experiences where friends would make eye contact with me and then completely ignore me due to lack of recognition, and that felt pretty ****ty. I don't think I look unrecognizable... but I get that when you're in con-mode you tend to dismiss anyone you don't immediately connect with. It still was crappy and made me feel invisible. The friends I did see and chat with told me I looked awesome. That was totally not crappy :D
The best part of the whole trip? The airplane seatbelt. It fit with SIX INCHES to spare. WOW. I was more comfortable on those two flights than I have been in over a decade. Absolutely glorious. I could not be happier and I know the next time I fly it will be even better. How's that for amazing? :D
Oh. I could also wrap the hotel towels all the way around myself.

I was the same way before this flight! I was looking forward to it (and a bit scared) because of the seatbelt. And I could put the tray table down too! It didn't touch my body at all! I'm going to love flying so much more in the future :D

It's a four day game convention in Indianapolis every year. 50,000 gamer geeks :) Board games, mini games, roleplaying games, and card games. (Not video games.) Lots of people in costumes and tons of fun :D

Amazing stuff Gwen! It sounds like all those NSVs made your entire trip!
I am sure GenCon was wonderful. We are in the planning stages to attend Comic Con next year in San Diego and my hope is to be at goal by that time. I hope to experience more of these types of NSVs along the way.
YAY for an excellent trip! And welcome home.
