Home from a great weekend
Hi all!
I went out of town on Friday (after my morning fitness classes) to spend the weekend helping my parents out. Back at the end of last year/beginning of this year I was spending every third week with my parents to help out while my dad was having chemo, and we all found that we missed my regular visits - so the plan is that I'm now going up every 6 weeks or so to help out and visit.
My mom was STUNNED by my body. She literally did a double take when I came downstairs on Saturday morning in workout clothes. That was pretty awesome. She told me that she's really proud of me. My dad did too! They were also thrilled that I was willing, eager, and able to help them with yard work - I helped prune trees for two hours, which was hard work! A year ago I would have stayed inside, sitting on my butt.
One of the highlights of the weekend was running outside on Sunday morning. This is only my third outside run and, on the first two, I didn't really get it. This time, though, it was amazing. The weather was GORGEOUS, I picked a great place to do my walk/run intervals, I switched from C25K to the Zombies Run 5K Training Plan, and everything came together perfectly. I felt wonderful! Who is this person who woke up at 6:30 while visiting family in order to get out and run?! That's ME!
We also went out to dinner with a group of my mom's high school classmates on Saturday night and, when I was washing my hands in the restroom, I had my first real moment of "wow, that person in the mirror looks pretty good! Oh wait, that's me! I look pretty good!" That was a neat feeling - definitely not one that I'm used to at all.
Overall, it was a super fantastic trip. Lots of reaffirmation. And what a difference a year makes? I was up at my parents' place a year ago and that was what made me decide, without a single doubt, that it was time to pursue weight loss surgery.

I do like it better, yeah. I find the regular C25K program to be a bit boring. Zombies Run includes things like heel lifts, knee lifts, skipping, stretching, and a few other things. The C25K plan is fine, but it's just not as enjoyable as the Zombies Run 5K Training Plan is.
(I've been using the regular Zombies Run program forever and LOVE IT.)
