Constipation!!
Ugh! Im tired of being scared to go to the bathroom...I typically eat premier protein shake for breakfast, salami cheese and a hard boiled egg for lunch, and some kind of chicken or pork for dinner....If I dont go #2 for a day I will take Mirilax the next morning...should I just be taking this every morning?...is there something I could be eating to help me out?...I still need to lose another 20-30 pounds so im not in maintenance yet...any suggestions?
Hiya Nick -
My daily diet is much like yours. I also have the same situation and rely on Miralax. Generally, I take when starting to feel backed up. After 2-3 days of using, things clear up for a few days, then rinse and repeat. I have been told by a Doc that using Miralax EVERY DAY causes your internals to stop performing normal function, so I shy away from that approach.
Also, this is why I jokingly refer to the universe of weight loss surgery patients as: "Constipation Nation" :)

I wonder why the doc said that? Miralax is a non-stimulant laxative which is exactly why it's safe to use every day without dependence.

I added more fiber to my diet once I was on the regular diet after 6 weeks. Things like salads, broccoli, etc., if you're able to tolerate them, do help. Greek yogurt tends to have several grams of fiber in it and it's packed with protein. I still eat protein first. Triple Zero yogurt by Oikos is sweetened with stevia, so isn't high in carbs or grams of sugar. I also take fiber gummies daily, and use Smooth Move tea when things get backed up, which isn't often now. Good luck!
I started out using Miralax just on days I didn't poop in the morning, but now I use 1/2 dose every morning in my shake and it's kept me perfectly regular.

I am 9 weeks out and started using Miralax the second week after surgery, intermittently at first. I am now adding it to my morning yogurt (along with the rest of my meds) in the morning and it is helping quite a bit. I got SUPER backed up from the iron supplement and that caused a fissure, so I am way more interested in staying regular than getting iron from a pill at this point, lol. I meet with my surgeon again on July 7 and I plan to discuss the constipation issue with him at length. I get over 64 oz of fluid every day and I also eat veggies once or twice a day but I am still constipated. I don't know what will happen if my iron level dips! :(
I take miralax every day. It make my life so much better.
