Aloha Lorraine! I am similar in some stats as you, (backpain) so no formal exercise plan (yet). dread the scale (Haven't had surgery YET) Glad to have found this website as well... trying to find somewhere I can fit in (other than any pair of my Jeans... am I right?!)
Do you have any surgery friends that are looking for a workout/accountability buddy? or incorporating something in a local support group? I just started going to one locally and they show low-impact ways to move before every meeting and it's been helpful since I suffer from fibromyalgia.
Wow that's amazing...I would say for sure you still have restriction 8 years out. Amazing...the last restaurant I went to was long horn. I went with my brother and we got 2 appetizers to share and we each got a 6oz sirloin..and each a bowl of French onion soup. I didn't eat the bread but had some loaded fries and deep fried Pickle's. I managed to eat most of my soup and then was too full to eat the steak. I got two more meals out of the steak and the remainder of the appetizers. It's just amazing. Before surgery I would eat 40oz of prime rib in a sitting...plus 2 sides and a salad. That was just 1 meal of the day.

I don't count calorie sor carbs. I eat protein first for sure. Breakfast is 2 eggs, 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of toast. No lunch. For dinner I will eat anything in MUCH smaller quantities but almost never bread and seldom pasta. Restaurants are difficult. Too much food so I try to share my wife's dinner. She gets 3/4 of the steak and I try to eat the rest. Veggies of course, but the meat is first. I really listen to my body. If I eat too much or too fast I will foam, so I pay attention. As soon as I feel the tightness at the top of my stomach, I stop. That's it. This lifestyle is probably not ideal, but it's working for me.
No.. I'm not taking anything in the way of PPI right now. Nothing was subscribed. Also- Im not aware of what my stomach acid levels were before the surgery. Only after as they ran some tests due to abnormal cells on the biopsy from the stomach that they took. I sent a note to my Bariatric Surgeons group about this
Thank you !

Are you taking a PPI for the acid? Most all surgeons regardless of what surgery one has puts their patients on one for at least the first three months.
Did you have a high level of acid before you had the sleeve?
You know what.. I think its the stomach acid. I was told by my GI surgeon that my stomach acid level is a little high. I bet that is what it is... That is why I am eating too much. I usually grab some crackers or a piece of toast which are carbs I dint need.
Thanks !
HI everyone,
I had the sleeve done and everything so far has gone really well. I was not sick really or in much pain. But I am not really losing a lot of weight. Its been foour weeks and Im only down like 12 pounds or so. I know its a learning curve for me as to what and how to eat but Im often hungry and that is causing problems. I have sent a note to NUT on this but I am wondering a few things from the group..
one- does this hunger go away? I thought that was part of the reason to do this surgery
Second- maybe it's just a stall? anyone have an experience like this?
There is the 3 week stall, but besides that what does your daily menu look like? How much fluid are you drinking? Are you tracking what you eat?
Sometimes acid mimics hunger and there is of course head hunger. For some people the hunger goes away, but for others it does not.

I actually had surgery on the 2nd. My doctor didn't restrict me much at all during my preop phase. He just pretty much said no sugar, no carbs, no starch. If I could give you some advice, try to get used to the liquids. Because I didn't have to do any liquid preop, I'm suffering now. I made dinner for my family last night and cried because I couldn't have any. If I had started liquids before, I would be used to not having solids. Also, gas pain after surgery has been kicking my butt! I still have not found a foolproof solution for getting rid of it, but I drink a lot of tea and put a heating pad on my chest at night (that's where it seems to settle) and that brings me a bit of comfort. Hope this helps!
Thank you :) I have been seeing a therapist and he is extremely helpful :) How far out from surgery are you? Are there any tips or information you think I should know? I have have my surgery in two weeks.
