Hi, since I came home from surgery, my nose is really picking up on stuff. Everything smells more exaggerated....I this normal....I've even noticed I seem to have a different smell, yes I've been bathing.  I seem to emit this unusual smell, it's not a bad smell, just a different one.  Maybe that gas they use to "pump u up" is oozing out of my incisions. Who know's maybe my nose is just super sensitive since surgery.....any ideas...??? Hugs, Sherry

Sherry,  Yes, smells changed for me also.  The first few weeks I could not stand the smeel of my own skin.  All food smelled gross and foods I did not like I found I was able to eat.  Things like milk tasted wonderful.  However, I thought I smelled like I was breastfeeding again.  I smelled a little like sour milk.   This went away after I was able to add in "real" food.  Okay the liking milk did not go away. It could be that I started drink Milk plus which has extra protien ans calcium.  I love the taste.

So aside from that how are you doing?

Hey Sherry, I totally remember this!  For a few weeks after surgery, smells were suddenly much stronger and overwhelming.  It definitely settled down.  :-)  ~Sue

I was sooo smell sensitive immediately post-op. Everything smelled and tasted wrong! And that b.o. thing is just hateful. I couldnt stand the smell of myself. I showered twice a day. No one else smelled me, but I did. It does go away.

I've been thinking and reading up on things, as I will soon be going to one of the WLS education meetings. I had never heard anyone say anything about this. My neighbor and two friends had the lap RNY and they never mentioned it. I try asking as many questions as i can think of. Is it something most or all people go through? Do you remember about how long it lasts?

Oh wow I remember how the smells were when I got home after my WLS.  It was so bad that for months when I walked into our apartment the smell was so strong I got sick.  A few months months later we moved.   My nose is still sensitive today but not as bad as it was right after surgery.  I often cant's use the soap in public restooms because the scent is so stong it makes me sick.  I'm almost 5 years post op so maybe it doesn't have anything to do with my WLS but this stuff never used to bother me.

hahhaha girl - I had surgery the same day as you and I feel yah! My dad is here helping me out post-op and he brought some meatloaf home from a local resturant. Everytime I open the fridge Im like WOAH what stinks... its the damn meatloaf! I was laying in bed last night and woke up from this awful smell!! Guess what it was? THE MEATLOAF! I swear the smell was seeping out of the fridge into my nostrils. My dad is heading up to the garbage with it right now :) I said eat it for breakfast or throw it out it smells dead.
