Addicted to protein bars!
I was having such a hard time finding foods that I liked and could make for one. I tried a whole host of protein bars about a month ago and now I usually have them for 2 out of 3 meals a day. I am getting a lot of protein and a lot of vitamins and minerals. I pick ones that are low in sugar alcohols since it's not so good to me. I just don't know about real food. I had eggs again the other day and it made me feel sick. Bars go down best it seems.
I am just looking for opinions here. How long can I do this before I should get back into real foods all day? I am seeing my nutritionist in a few weeks so I will definetly ask her about it.

The early bird gets the worm, But the 2nd rat gets the cheese!!

Hi Rachael,
I would not worry too much, your stomach takes a while to heal up. I know I was really watchful when I started going into real food from pureed. I really relied on soups that were thicker, like for example, I would cook lentils and blend them as a soup base and put tiny bits of ground up meat in it. I relied on refried beans, and just slowly put things to the test. Boiled eggs were definitely out but I could scramble it toa runny stage and that was ok..its just kinda hit and miss. Hope that helps!!
You're doing fine. It takes awhile to get back to somewhat "normal" eating. It's better to eat what agrees with you rather than try to force things that don't. Protein bars are a much better choice than other things you could be eating, so don't sweat it.
You can start easing into "real" foods with some chili, refried beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. Just a bite or so and see how you feel. It takes time - took me almost 6 months before I could really eat things and have them not bother me.
Tell your nutritionist for sure, and see what he/she says. They might be able to recommend some other soft foods that will sit well with you until you can eat more normally. Good luck! :)
