help needed - belly button infection
I'll call my doctor on Monday so they can document this for future reference. In the meanwhile, what can I do about my belly button? It's all sore and bleeding inside and has a bit of drainage that smells HORRIBLE! I know many of you have been through this. Any helpful suggestions to get me through until Monday?
Terry, this is weird, but I had the same thing about a year ago. My bellybutton had a little blister inside, was very sore and irritated, with some drainage. Also smelly! It was awful - and just plain embarrassing! I called my doc and she said prolly not serious, just keep it clean and dry and she said if it didn't get better pretty quickly, to come in to see her. She suggested not using an antibiotic cream because it wouldn't stay dry if I did that. Just as she said, it got better pretty quickly.
But you are right to see the doctor, especially if it's not better by Monday.

yep, about three months ago. went to the doctor and he recommended triple antibiotic ointment and not to wear tight jeans for a little while until it cleared up, which it did in a week.

When I get a bit of a yeast infection in my belly button (that is likely what you have), I always wa**** out with antibacterial soap morning and night (drying it extremely well) and then apply a good dose of Gold Bond powder (or generic). Sometimes you may need to apply some, wait a bit, and apply more if your skin absorbs the rest.
Depending on how bad the infection/ra**** will burn (cold burning) for a minute or two, but then blessed relief will follow. I don't know what I'd do without the stuff - first sign of redness/itching/pain anywhere in regions that rub, I apply Gold Bond and the pain disappears.
Zeasorb AF powder was recommended on dermatology website when I researched a rash that I have gotten in the belly button or folds of skin where the sun never shines. Sounds like the same thing. It is 8 or 9 bucks at the pharmacy and had to ask for it at the pharmacy counter, but boy, what blessed relief. Wash and dry the area, then put on the powder. It is more absorbent than regular powder. Clears up rashes quickly and is worth every penny!
Oh, and sometimes after I put the powder on, if it is really weeping/draining, I take a piece of gauze or part of a white Bounty towel and roll it up and stick it in my belly button to help absorb the drainage. I change it out if needed.
