I've just lost 22 pounds and am a month after RNY. I feel I should've lost more after I read about people who lost like 40 pounds etc. Help!! Is there something wrong with me? Or am I doing something wrong?

I only lost 17 pounds in my first month... I was kinda freakin' out, too... but it's okay... hang in there... everyone loses at different rates... I'm a slow-go, and although it took me awhile to accept that, I'm still extremely happy with my weight loss.  There's nothing wrong with you, and if you're following your surgeon's plan, you're not doing anything wrong.  It's hard not to compare yourself to others' progress, but try not to... just concentrate on you and sticking to your program, and you'll be fine.  BIG SMILES!  :)  And congrats on your 22 pounds weight loss... that's an AWESOME achievement!

You've gotta be kidding me right? Take the word ONLY out of your vocabulary it's demoralizing! When was the last time you lost 22 pounds in a month? You need to celebrate every single pound you lose. Maximize your tool, do what the surgeon and/or nutritionist told you and your body will do the rest. Be Well and Be Healthy, ANDI

Don't forget that your body is kind of in shock right now freshly postop and it isn't wanting to let you starve, doesn't want to let go of those extra pounds, so your metabolism, etc., is kinda out of whack.  It'll figure it out eventually and let your losses come.  But I personally think 22 lb in 1 month sounds fantastic!

Heck no - you're right on target! You can't compare yourself to other people - that's a recipe for disaster when it comes to keeping your mental focus. One of the reasons for the differences between some people (and there are millions more reasons besides this) :  some people simply don't diet prior to surgery or are carrying a LOT of water weight, and the first month is part of a big "whoosh".  People who were dieting prior to surgery may not see as big of an initial "whoosh" because the big water "whoosh" already happened. That was my case, anyway.  At 400+, I was preparing myself for losing "fast and furious" during the first three months.  I lost 21.5 lbs in one week on my pre-op prep liquid diet.  After surgery, I only added 10-15 pounds to that total during the first month.  Month two rolled around, and my losing "routine" kicked in, I'm now averaging about 5 lbs. a week and it's keeping steady. That might not be your predicament - but this is just to illustrate that you have to look at the longer term for measuring your success.  At one month, I was only about 25 pounds down, but I'm closing in on month 4 and almost reaching my Century mark.  For me - the fact that I had even lost those 25 pounds was a MIRACLE, because I had been struggling for the year prior to that just to not gain anything. Congrats on your success so far!  The best is yet to come!

I don't see your BMI but  I lost 19lbs in the first month.  First don't compare yourself to others but if you do you should make sure your BMI is similar.  Larger people will lose more in the beginning  and totally then smaller MO people.  Don't you feel better?  Arn't your clothes fitting better?  Kim

Ashley.. i am right there with you.. actually a bit behind you and I am 5 1/2 weeks out.  I have lost 20 pounds.  I find it a bit frustrating to but everyone tells me that it will begin to get faster soon and if not at least I am loosing.  I also keep in mind that the slower I loose (as long as I am loosing) the less likely I am to need plastics!  I have also heard that the more you have to loose the faster it starts.  I dont know how much of that is true but thats what people keep saying.  i know it is hard for me to get the water it and I have heard that that is also key so I am working on that.  The stalls KILL me!!!  I hate being at the same wieght for days at a time!  Good luck and keep your chin up!  22 pounds is GREAT!!!!

My surgeon said 10 pounds per month is considered successful.  You are more than twice that.  Relax.  Let the tool work.  You can't screw it up for a while.  Take this time to learn how to eat, and exercise adn the tool will do the rest.  By the time you can screw it up - you'll be a lean mean, knowing how to eat, fighting machine....you're great.
