"I only lost 30lbs. in 5 weeks."

I log onto OH and the first thing I see is a bunch of threads with people complaining about how 'little' they have lost.  STOP IT!!!  I am not trying to pick on anyone specific here.  Please do not take it personally, only under advisement. WLS is NOT a contest!!!  What MaryJo loses will differ from what Maxine loses from what Edward loses.  WHY?  You are all DIFFERENT!  You could all be the same height and weight and have the same BMI, but inside, your geneology, your DNA, your metabolism, are all unique!  You cannot compare lions to snakes to chimpanzees!!!  There is no logic to it. If you are a WLS 'lightweight', you are most likely to lose at a slower rate than a 'heavyweight' like myself!  Be GLAD that you had less weight to start with!!!  I wish I were in your shoes!!! And lastly, ANY WEIGHT LOSS over 1 or 2 lbs. a week, is PHENOM!!!  When did any of you lose weight so rapidly at any other time in your life???  I lost 30 lbs. overnight once.  But I had to give birth to a 10 lbs. baby to do that.  I've NEVER lost 50 lbs. in 3 mos. or 30 lbs. in 5 weeks, or even 140 lbs. in 6 to 12 mos.  I would have given my right arm to do that!!!  And I'm right-handed!!! So, please!!!  If you are guilty of doing this, step back.  Do the calculation of how much per week you've lost and look at that.  Or take your measurements and see how many inches you've lost! WLS is NOT an overnight cure for obesity.  If it was, would over 50% of North Americans be overweight???  Of course not!  You are undoing YEARS of gaining, in 18 to 24 mos.  That, in itself, is as damn near a miracle as you can get, IMO. And please, please, PLEASE!!!  If I EVER become guilty of doing this after my surgery, feel free to kick my @$$ and call me out on it.  I'll be glad you did.

Thank you for posting this.  Every time I see one of those posts I just want to say, "Oh PULLLEEEEZZZ!!! "  The body isn't capable of losting much more than a couple of pounds a week.  It comes off fast at first because a lot of it is water weight.  We didn't gain this weight over night, it's not going to come off over night! You are absolutely right.  I guess I am considered a slower loser and even though I never posted, I started to think I must be doing something wrong because everyone else that posted and had surgery the same time i did seem to lose more than I was.  Then I noticed alot of people felt the same way that I do and through this site, learned to relax about it.  I finally realized I am losing weight and not gaining for the first time in 5 years and I would be happy with that.  Now I don't stress about it anymore. Thanks for putting that out there

Hey, if your listed surgery date of January 4 is accurate, you're doing fabulous, having lost a quarter of your excess weight already in under two months! Go by the percentages and the numbers will give you a far more realistic picture.
