When does liquid protein diet get bad?

I am on day 5 of my pre-op liquid protein diet and I have dreaded it for so long and it has not been bad yet !!??!!!   I am just not far enough into it or is it harder for some than others? This is so new to me...I have NEVER been on a diet for 5 days without cheating and I don't even have the urge to! I keep waiting for the other shoe to fall and to wake up ravenous and miserable and get worse but not so far. I even sat with my family at a church dinner today with grilled burgers, hotdogs, chips, cupcakes, etc and I sat there and drank my unsweetened tea and was fine. My friend thinks it is because I am finally in the right place mentally...what do you all think...does it take 7 or 8 days for this diet to get miserable or what? Thanks ! toni

I think the first 3 days were the worst. Good luck to you.

I'm on my 4th week of liquid diets.  I don't know if it gets bad as much as it get monotonous.  Hoping I can move to the pureed stage Tuesday when I see the doc.  Good luck! Bobby

Your friend ha**** it right on the head. It's 99% mental. Get your head wrapped around what your new life style will be as early as possible before surgery. I had 3 years, (fighting the first ins co, then getting a new ins co that did approve it.) so it's really been an easy journey so far. And I don't miss the sweets and things I loved before.  After surgery being on liquids for 20 days wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, then pureed for another 20 days, then soft foods for another 20 days then regular foods after that. It's all good! I'm very very blessed for sure!

Toni, I am on day 7 of my 2 week liquid diet and i will admit to cheating a few times.  Luckily, i've managed to stick to low fat high protein items when i cheat but they were definitely not liquid.  I am however going to stick strictly to the liquids this week because my surgery is on Friday.  My liver is not fatty according to my ultrasound so the liquid diet is so i lose a few more pounds before surgery which i've lost 6 this week.  Best of luck to you,  you seem to definitely be ok with the diet so keep up the good work!  The things i ate when i cheated were weight control oatmeal, tuna mixed with light mayo, and 1 mini bag of microwave popcorn because i just had to have something to chew!  The weekends are the worst for me with very little distractions to keep me on the straight and narrow.  Thankfully i'll be back to work tomorrow and it will be easier.  Robin

Other then me not liking the protein drinks I was never miserable at all.  It was just so much nicer when I got to eat again.  If you are drinking them fine now you are all set, you won't get hungry for a long long time, it gets easier not harder from where you are now. Hugs Heidi
