Do You Believe Gluttony Is a Sin? Or Has It Become The American Way, and No Big Deal?

Julie I think you look pretty fantastic yourself great job. I know Baldwin well used to play karaoke at Big Star Lake. I know how the poverty in these areas can greatly effect many and have for many years. Same goes for many other area's in Michigan. I just helped with a benifit this weekend for a family who's very near an dear to me the father has terminal cancer they give him less then a year. These are the kinds of people who even though they have very little they have huge hearts and if there is a crisis in the community will jump in no questions asked and help no matter how big or small the job is. We were blessed to raise $4,827.00 in less then 3 hours time. And in a community with no real industry to speak of thats pretty darn good.  And as for the only having $5 to spend on food I can remember weeks like that when my kids were small. It wasn't not wanting them to eat healthy it was what to feed them keep them satified an full or go to bed hungry.  As for being a teacher there is nothing simple about that. Your a leader in your own right and a good role model for others. Dawn

This is an interesting topic to me.  I know that for many years I felt incredibly guilty that I was unable to lose weight.  I thought if I prayed enough, etc... that God would give me the strength to do it on my own.  It made me feel like a failure as a Christian. I read "Christian" books about losing weight and got more and more depressed.

Is gluttony a sin?  If you think it is a sin, then yes, I think so.  If a person feels guilty about eating too much, then it is sin to them.  Not everyone believes the same about this topic. Some people do not feel guilty when overeating. Being lazy, lying, cheating, stealing etc... would also be considered as sinful to me.  Is it a moral issue?  I think it all comes down to what a person believes about themselves.  I know for me, I feel guilty when I eat too much.  Guilt=sin doesn't it??? As a Christian, I'm glad Jesus paid for all my sins. Even the sin of gluttony. (Charming... I do have to wonder if this thread has anything to do with trying to make another point about DS'ers being gluttons?  Kind of a backhanded attempt wouldn't you say???)

Hi there Jaredsmom: You asked: I do have to wonder if this thread has anything to do with trying to make another point about DS'ers being gluttons?  Kind of a backhanded attempt wouldn't you say??? A good question is a good question, and worthy of being asked.  Have you read all the wonderful responses to the initial post, here and on other threads?  People of all kinds deserve the chance to answer it, if they would like to. This includes DSers, who are free to respond on any forum they choose, as I am.  DSers are not babies who should be coddled and protected.  Why should they be infantalized!  These boards are habituated by adults who choose all kinds of surgeries, for all kinds of reasons.  These same adults have all kinds of opinions, and are entitled to express these widely divergent points of view,  no matter what surgery they have had. In fact, I actively SOLICITED those different points of view, because I was interested in finding out what those perspectives were.  They have been really, genuinely fascinating. For instance, I'm realy glad that I had a chance to read YOURS.
