All Inclusive Resorts Mandatory Fees

You know what I thinking, how do we (WLS patients) dispute these all inclusive resort MANDATORY fees?

I travel ALOT and noticed a few of the places I frequent have this policy. In some cases its an extra $50-100 bucks a DAY! For unlimited food and alcoholic beverages, since I had WLS Jan/ 2008...I can longer indulge in either, so why would I be paying "as much"? Is there some advocacy group that monitors this behavior and works on our side in changing this? Think the rate we pay should be in direct relation to what we can now consume. Like perhaps an 1/4 to 1/10 of the mandatory fee price. If Im only eating barely 2 cups (16 ozs) of food a day and no alcohol..., why would I be expected to pay $50-100 bucks for someone else wolfing down... 3 and 4 plates of food at one sitting? Please, voice your opinion on this one... LOL.. I know you all have one.

Not ALL all inclusive resort make you pay the additional money. It depends on the resort but many times you can just pay for the room. The resorts know who are the people that can eat and drink unlimited because they get a special bracelet. You might want to reach the resort directly for these rates though. GL

Give it up.  If your medical card isn't honored at the buffet restaurants, you'll be darned sure it's not going to make a difference at a resort.  If you want to save money, find another vacation spot.  Otherwise, make sure your husband eats enough for both of you.

I'm a travel agent.  The answer is very simple.  If you don't think you can take advantage of staying at an all-inclusive, then don't do it.  You don't have to stay at all-inclusives.  There are many beautiful resorts, even in places like Jamaica where you do not have to do all-inclusive.  The only reason why there are so many in Jamaica and DR is a safety issue.  If that is important to you, then it would be well worth the extra money to stay at an all-inclusive. I hate it when post-ops think that just because "THEY" chose to have this surgery that they should be given special treatment. That's my opinion.....

I totally agree on all points.  We have to stop expecting any special treatment.  Case in point: I've never been a drinker, but we love to go to a comedy club that although it has no cover charge (yeah right) it does require a two drink minimum per person and the cost is about $10/drink. That means I have two bottles of water with lemon for $20.  It's my choice not to drink alcohol, so I pay the price because I feel the benefits (excellent comedy) outweigh the negatives. Ann

My daughter and son-in-law went to a Sandals Resort in St. Lucia.  Neither of them have had weight loss surgery.  They don't drink anything bu****er.  They both prefer hamburgers and pizza to fancy French and Italian food so they ate mostly from the shack by the pool.  It never occurred to them to expect any reduction in charges because they do not drink or eat fancy foods.  They went to the resort for a lovely vacation and that's what they got.   I think we tend to look at these sort of events from a "food" perspective and not just a chance to have fun, socialize, and relish life.  I think we have to change our perspective and just plan to enjoy vacations, dining out with family/friends, parties, etc.   DeeDee

You know.. this doesnt bother me at all.  How many years did we eat more than a single persons portion?    Now that  we eat normal (or will be normal within a year)  why do we think we should have special treatment for eating whats rightfully a real portion?

Suzanne is on the money with this one.  How offended would we all be if they charged us MORE at all inclusive resorts before our surgery just based on our weight?  You really can't have it both ways! Denise

I'm with you on this one.  I'm thankful that in the past, I've not been charged by the bread/chip basket.  We all have choices to make, we just need to make ones that suits our needs the most.

Back in the day when you could eat more did you insist on paying more? No? I didn't think so.... The price at an all inclusive is calculated to be an average of all consumption for all guests and then a screw the guest sur-charge is added in. Some guests will consume considerably more, some considerably less. If you object to paying the one price there are many many vacation spots where you are responsible for your own food and beverages. Going to those places also puts more money into the LOCAL economy as the restaurants are more than likely owned locally and not by some big multi-national corporation.
