Can I swallow the pill OK at 2 weeks out?  I don't have it in liquid form.

Thanks,
Wendy

It's best to call your doc.. but there are a number of people who have taken pills straight out of surgery.

Do you need the sedative?  If so, just take benedryl.. it's the same med, available in liquid, and the pills are teenytiny.  Plus, hey, it's cheaper.

My surgeon said anything larger than an M&M must be crushed or broke in half, but if it generally is the size of an M&M or smaller, go for it.  I've been taking pills this size from day 1 post op.

Thanks everyone,

I tried sleeping in the bed last night.....big mistake!!  Every muscle in my body has been hurting all day long.

I figured I would try this to see if I can get some rest tonight (in the chair!).

Thanks!
Wendy

Hello,
Try half the dose if your doc says it's ok or make your own judgement call if you know your body.  If you must take the pm's cut the pill in quarters.  I cut all pills that I feel can't slide through a straw just in case.  I hate pain!  I hate the feeling of stuff stuck on the way to my pouch.

The problem with tylenol pm is it  gives me the leg jitters if not enough food in my tummy to absorb it better.  I know how rough it is to sleep post op.  I took the pain meds for weeks because I could feel the staples and my body just hurt.  I take ambien to sleep.  My doc suggested I take pm's on top of that but I don't.  Oh I slept with a pillow up against my tummy so I couldn't rollover.  The pillow helped a lot.  My brother was a pharmacist before he passed away from cancer and he always said to take pain meds.  There is no reason to feel uncomfortable after a surgery.

My best regards,
Candy

Just a thought...every muscle in my body hurt shortly after I was discharged from the hospital..I even went to the ER ..ended up I had a real bad UTI from the catheter I had in the hospital. I was told that a UTI from a cath has many different symptoms than a reg UTI.

everyone is different....i was given the ok by my dr right away but everytime i tried I threw up!  I was determinedto get the pils down especially vitamins as zi hated the chewales...and then one day I trid again ane I was fine!  Now I swallow three-4 pills at once.

Alot of this is a learning process all learned by trial and error.

Good luck..and if you are taking anypills make sure they have NZO canuba wax coating...usualy the no name , generic rands do NOT have the coating.  What happens is if there s a coating the pills take longer to disolve inside and as wls patients we dont have muc time to allow them to disolve...therfore taking the pills wth canuba coating really goes through us before we get the full effect of the drugl.

Good luck!
