I was wondering if anyone can eat chinese food.  I have not tried it yet.  I am 4 weeks out.  Nothing too crazy, wondering if I can have chicken, shrimp & broccoli with white rice or brown rice.

Is it too soon??

I have heard others that can eat it fine, but I am almost 4 months out and just tried some last week (a couple of shrimp and some veggies), and I was SO sick.  I guess it was the sauce or spices or something because I have eaten shrimp and vegetables of course before.  Good luck.  Just take it easy if you decide to try it.

I have tried CHinese twice since surgery I am 3 1/2 months out. I had Shrimp with broccoli no rice not allowed by my do****il 6 months out. The broccoli was under cooked. Not sure if it was the sauce or broccoli as I had had shrimp before, but I ended up vomiting. The other time I had only egg drop soup and I was fine.

I'm almost 7 months out - I can eat chinese food fine. I don't eat the rice - as that's just wasting your calories and carbs. I usually get Shrimp and veggies. I ask them to cook the veggies a little more than normal, so they are softer. I also get the sauce on the side - otherwise they drench it - this way you can control it more. I also ask them to make it with no oil or as little oil as possible.

At 4 weeks, I would say you're probably too early out to give it a try. I wasn't daring until about 4 or 5 months out.

I am only 6 weeks out and not brave enough to try it yet. but I will tell you that a lot of people have trouble with msg. Also, my mom is 3 years out and still can't tolerate rice so I would be very careful with that.

I'd bet you'll be okay w/ Chinese. Careful w/ the rice, always protein first veggies if ya have room, avoid the sweet stuff like General Hsao or honey dipped chicken. Shrimp is a good choice for protein. Remember everything you eat should be "as tolerated", any warning sign, even the smallest feeling and you need to STOP, it's not worth it.

Depends on which form of WLS you had. I had the DS, and I had *****ese food the day my staples came out. If you had the RNY---bet it's too soon, especially for the rice.

I'm 11 weeks out.  I had Cashew Chicken from a chinese restaurant yesterday for lunch.  Only eat about 1/4 cup of rice.  Eat the chicken which was very moist, the cashews (more protein) and the mushrooms.  It did have sauce.  I was thrilled it didn't make me sick.  I felt that I eat a good protion of the chicken to get in my protein.  Sometimes at home I tend to dry my chicken out and it's hard to eat enough to get the needed protein.  I was crazy to try it at work though.
Good luck.
PS:  I'm having left overs for lunch again today.

Rice is hard, even now 3.5 years later its hard on my stomach, I have eaten non fried chinese food with no problems, but I had boneless ribs not too long ago and got sick as a dog so I am swearing off Chinese food for quite some time.

At 4 weeks out I wouldn't even try it.

Good Luck

Did your surgeon or nut give you a list of foods you can eat @ 4wks?

Is Chinese Food or rice on that list?  Honestly, like someone else said before, rice does not have enough nutritional value to take up room in a brand new pouch!!

I would stick to the egg drop soup for now.
