Just because it has been mentioned the VSG is another option. Its the first part of the DS without the rerouting of the intestines.

Having a fully functioning pyloric valve/God-given stomach is one of the main reasons I chose the DS.  It had less to do with drinking and eating at the same time and more to do with how terrified I am of vomiting!  Even though I enjoy sweets (still do!), the dumping syndrome scared me.  The DS Forum is a wealth of information; your husband can gain much insight there.

No, we don't have that restriction ..   Atlhough some DS (and VSG) docs advise avoiding carbonated beverages, for the "usual reasons" ..

I'd invite your hubby to join us on the Men's Forum sometime ..  Lot of good support there, too ..   Does he have a username yet?

Yep you can eat and drink at the same time.  Plus the DS has less food restrictions.  High protein, higher in fat diet, with low carbs....this keeps the weight dropping off.  There are a few of your surgeons DSers on the DS forum if that is who he is going to.  He should come to the DS board for vitamin information and support.

Yup, drinking and eating at the same time is fine. However, early out it's better to minimize the drinking while eating because of the space issue.

I'm someone who needs a sip of something for almost every bite of food. This was one of many things that made the RNY untenable for me.

Oh, aren't you two going to be a pair?  Your fiance is right.  He is able to eat and drink at the same time without washing his food away like your RNY -- however, that being said, it may not be that comfortable to do at first, just because it may make him feel full very fast.  I usually drink at the end of my meal unless the food is dry and I'll drink a little during dinner.  Also, make sure he's eating full fats as a post op.  If he doesn't get enough fat, he could wind up constipated.
