Do you ever just want to eat a meal of veggies or fruits?

Im not the only one! After surgery two months ago I suddenly got very addicted to fruit (*currently stuffing face with grapes while typing this*). Its really strong so sometimes I wonder if my body is craving something the fruit has that Im not getting enough of. Always liked fruit before but now Id just like to live off it >_< why cant grapes have protein? Cruel blow, mother nature! I just count my blessings that I can handle natural sugar. You can still get the protein in just fine and enjoy fruits and veggies, wheeee. But dont eat too much like I just did  -.-

If you work your fruit and vegetables into your snacks then you do not have to sacrifice protein.  I often snack on apple wedges and start each day with a banana.

YEAH!!!  I am off for a 4 day weekend and can definitely get into some asparagus and a stir fry.  I might just try tofu, but will definitely get some protein powder/bars in!!!

I, too, find the fruit is like a 'sweet.'   I took a taste of a real sweet the other day and it was YUCKY!  I felt YUCKY!  I'd much rather eat some blueberries or a strawberry with splenda or yogurt!

I even like the low sodium V-8, which I would never have tolerated before WLS!!

I can honestly say, "I love my RNY!"

Yes, I do feel like this sometimes. I've been to a vegan/raw foods restaurant a few times in the last coupla months. I was pretty skeptical when I first went int, but they have the most creative food I've ever seen and it's delicious. And that's saying something because I definitely love animal proteins, dairy, eggs, etc.

Fruit and veggies are healthy....so long as you get protein in I can't see why this would be a problem (unless you dump on fruit).

Veggies are full of wonderful nutrients.  I try to eat plenty of them every day.  Be careful on the fruit.  Some people dump on the natural sugars.  I do not.  One of my favorite snacks is apples with peanut butter.  Satisfies both the hunger and the sweettooth.

There is more to good nutrition than just protein.  As long as you are reaching your minimum requirements, enjoy those veggies.  You should also add some whole grains to your diet.  Nothing keeps things "moving" like grains and veggies.

One other note on this whole fruit and veggie thing.  I didn't just start dieting a couple months ago.  This has been a 40+ year process.  So I've trained myself to eat fruits and vegetables.  It would be a cruel blow to deprive ourselves now.  For about a year pre-op I was watching, learning and altering my eating patterns according to Gillian McKeith's BBC TV show "You Are What You Eat."  She stresses nutrients such as B vitamins (said with British accent viTemins) in brown rice, zinc in pumpkin seeds, etc.  I got really hooked on these foods and am slowly re-introducing them as snacks.  I especially love the pumpkin seeds on salads!  Haven't had a salad yet, but I'm still trying to stick to softer foods.  My first fill is 2/26.  I like the idea where someone said just up the protein scoop in a couple of your daily shakes.  Also, I use a base of yogurt for my protein shake which ups the protein even more... then I just use a splash of milk to make it drinkable.

Thanks for the post.  It's been a great conversation topic!  Viva La Vegetables!
