For the first two years after RNY malabsorption keeps the weight off.  By the third year the body has adjusted and knows how to process calories again.  Weight gain is common when this happens.  You can lose it, but it is going to be like before surgery.  You have to count calories and exercise.  And it will not just fall off anymore.  This is not really your fault.  We all come out of surgery thinking that we have this fresh new chance at our weight and that we will never again eat anything bad.

Then life comes along and happens.
