so i was wondering.. when did everyone start to eat beef jerky?  i know that all nuts/surgeons have different requirements, but what about everyone else?

I was 2 months out when I started Beef jerky. I am one of the "fortunate" ones that don't dump though. I had no problem tolerating it then.

I got the go ahead on turkey and beef jerky at 3 months out. Sugar is very low, so even if you are one of those (like me) who "dumps", it's not a problem. Good source of protein and low calories. I like the Oberto brands...
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

I didn't try it till five months out.  Meat was one of the more difficult foods for my system to handle after surgery.

I started about 5 mos out.  Great snack food, but I watch the sodium amounts  very carefully.  1 pack per day equals 2 days sodium requirement.  My PCP woke me up to sodium as one of the silent killers

I don't think dumping is the problem - the problem with beef jerky is that you better chew, chew, chew it until you can't chew anymore!  I ate some 2-3 months out and everything was fine.  Ate some again, didn't chew well enough and ended up sick for two days with that "stuck" pain and some vomiting.  I bought some papaya enyzme and that seemed to help.  Be careful!
