Watermellon
I had my RNY on 3/16/09 - I have lost 72 lbs so far (not including pre-op wieght loss). I L-O-V-E watermelon too! I have found that since month 3 post-surgery, I have major cravings and if they are not horrible - I give into them... Last month I was majorly craving watermelon and I ate a bowl of it (albeit small) every night for 2-3 weeks..... Then it went away and lately my craving has been refried beans - so I have been having that every day (again, nonfat and small portions).
It will depend on your body and what it can handle - your body WILL tell you. For example, I cannot eat cold cereals of any kind. For some reason, every time I eat cereal, I get a tummy ache..... not dumping, but a good-ol-fashioned tummy ache for about 30 minutes or so and cold cereal is not worth that to me. For me, that is pretty much the only thing that I cannot tolerate that I have found. I waited until I was back on 'regular foods' - about 8 weeks post-surg. and gently added in any food that I wanted (of course, I stayed away from full fat and full sugar things like fried foods and ice cream, etc.) - but if I am having a SERIOUS craving for something bad - I eat it............BUT only a bite or maybe two....... Then I am not depriving myself and my craving is satisfied and I didn't overdo it.
In the first eight weeks, it IS indeed VERY important to have the foods small or blended or mushy - so I just waited the eight weeks (not like it was the rest of my life) to add any "iffy" foods back in.
Good Luck!!!

You can pretty much eat anything in moderation -- if you chew it good enough. It's up to you to decide what you don't eat and what your limits are.
I never go over 40-45g carbs and sugar makes me dump - so I would probably not eat more than a bite or two of watermelon. One cup of watermelons has 11g carbs, 9g sugar -so it sort of depends on you.

I love watermelon as well, but like many others here found that a piece or two very well chewed worked just fine for me.
Take it slow is the best advice I can give anyone. I placed this in my brain and follow it: I have the rest of my life to eat the things I used to love (if they are pouch worthy) but now is my window to loose as much as possible so some things I just don't eat.
Watermelon is one food I have had a couple of bites of since surgery.
Enjoy! The fruit I missed the most this summer is nectarines...so I bought one and it took me three days to fini**** I had a couple of small bites for a taste and that did me just fine.
Ironically, I used to LOVE chocolate. I have not really wanted it. The food I miss the most is salad. I was freed up to eat it awhile ago, but I still do protein first so not yet.
enjoy the ride...it is soooo very worth it.

I am 15 months out, and I can eat most foods in moderation if I chew them well. A little watermelon doesn't bother me, especially if I eat it with some protien. I can't eat bananas. I can eat some cereal like Kashi Go Lean, but I can't eat it with milk. I have to put it in yogurt. I still don't eat bread, but I can have some crackers and nonsticky rice. I usually stick with Kashi or Doctor Cracker brand crackers and Kashi pilaf since it is 7 whole grains. I don't eat any high sugar items other than fruit, not even fruit juice. I am careful with high fat foods, but if I go out, and my husband orders a fried seafood platter, I'll eat a little of his instead of ordering my own meal. If it is fried, I eat alot less than if it is not, but in the time I've had getting to this point, I have learned a new eating style, and it is something I can live with. There are a few foods that I say I'll never eat, but for the most part, I just do high protien, low sugar, complex carb, and the fat works out itself. Once in a while, I'll even eat one piece of thin crust pizza. I don't have to make myself only eat one piece. That is all I can eat. But I feel satisfied with one piece or less where I used to eat one pizza. And I only do it once in a while instead of every week. I only weigh once a week to make sure that I'm not gaining. If I eat a little too many calories one day, I just make sure that I don't do it the next few days. So far, that has worked for me. Everyone is really different after surgery. It's hard to guess what you will or won't be able to eat. But for most people, by the time they are a year out, they can eat a little of most foods. Good Luck with your journy.
OMG, I also LOVE watermelon, and have like whole posts dedicated to my frequent indulgences of it since my 4/28/09 surgery (rny).
I have never had trouble with it and actually find it very soothing and a great form of hydraton!
Check out my daily blog (below) and type in watermelon in the search engine (and click enter) and you can see my love affair with this wonderful fruit!

ALSO CANNOT TOLERATE COLD CREAL, GRITS, OR EGGS LIKE I USE TO, IT DOES NOT DO WELL, ALSO I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING CONSTIPATION REALL BAD, I HAVE TRIED VEGETABLE LAXATIVES BUT IT DOES NOT HELP, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
