Nancy,

Try drinking a bottle of Isopure; it has a whopping 40 grams of protein per bottle. I usually drink one a day because I have to drink so much water with Sjogren's and sometimes I just need a taste of something in my "liquido nutrition-h-2-oh" (silly me). Also, the K20 protein sticks are good, too. They have five proteins and you can stir them in your water.

Fage Fluff has 11.25 proteins per 3/4 cup and it's easy to get in. The recipe is on my OH blog.

Doctors and nutritionists vary so much. Mine doesn't want me to go over 86 grams of protein per day; but I lose better when I hit around 100-110. I guess we're all just "test tubes" to them. LOL

Love ya' girl!

DAMNIT... sorry I had to say it hon.

STILL 5.8.  You HAVE to be having some malabsorbtion issues.  Is your intestine to short???

I wonder if something is limiting how much protein you absorb... something genetic, or maybe a medication.  You have been doing soo good!

How did your other labs come back?  Any improvement?

OHHHH! I just thought of something!  INCREASE YOUR DAIRY!  You need calcium/vit d to process protein.  If you can use Milk in your protein shakes, AND maybe double the amount of calcium you are taking?

Maybe you are low on Protease?

Just a few ideas.

It's not a sign of weakness to seek help when you need it.
The only sign of weakness is NOT to seek the help you need.

Thank you all for the great support and suggestions. I am baffled by this as well. Couple things: My surgeon does not allow ANY dairy for life! No milk, yogurt, cheese (this I don't follow). He also is a believer that you ONLY count protein from shakes and yes he did really bump mine to 180g. I am scheduled for my 9 month follow-up with him tomorrow (although I haven't actually "seen" him at any follow-up appt, always his PA. Last time I saw him was right before surgery). His office offers no nutritional support. His nutritionist (that I saw pre-op) quit because she totally disagreed with his rules of "no dairy". So, although he is at a center of excellence and has incredible stat's, I am not expecting much support from him on this. I may take a trip down to visit Vitalady. She has a wealth of knowledge and may have some suggestions. Mike, they didn't say any of my other labs were out of whack (but believe me, even getting a phone call from them is amazing!) so I am hoping for the best on the other labs! THANK YOU again for all the support everyone. I feel great, down close to 170lbs, hair is starting to regrow, and I am ever so grateful for this surgery and what it has done for me! You are the greatest group of supportive people!

I am three years out, and I'm the same way.  I'm a DS'er, and I think with any of us who have a malabsorptive surgery, it's kind of a crap shoot as to what our ultimate nutritional needs are.  My protein is a 5.2, and my albumin is bottoming out as well.  I've just recently added back in protein shakes after two years plus of getting my protein from real food only.    I'm eating five eggs (for the albumin)  and working up to four protein shakes a day.   I'm currently taking in over 200 grams of protein!  I'm not a protein shake fan, but I've had the best luck making protein coffee, or by adding it to foods.  I made high protein cottage cheese pancakes today....1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/2 cottage cheese, two eggs, 1/2 t. baking powder, 1/4 t. salt.   Cook on medium heat (they will be eggier than a real pancake) and serve with Smuckers Sugar Free Maple Syrup.  MMMMM!   It takes me about an hour to eat the whole recipe, and I added an extra egg.   That's 54 grams of protein in one shot!

Gina, your food is looking good even though you are back to school and sooooooo busy with the boys!  : > )  Hope school is getting into a rhythm.  It will probably take a few weeks to finally settle down.

I am really enjoying the daily commute into Chicago on the train with my husband.  It is nice spending some extra time together.  Thursday we are going to meet for a picnic lunch across from Sears Tower (oops, now called Willis Tower).

Did some clothes shopping at Dress Barn today.  I had to get a few shirts to wear under my suits.  The ones I bought a month ago are baggie already!  I do love my RNY!   They have some beautiful fall suits this season.  Can't wait to get to goal and go crazy with a whole new work wardrobe!

Tuesday's menu:
B - Pria Protein bar (I'm tasting several bars I found at Meijer)
S - 1/2 cup Special K high protein cereal with skim milk
L - 1 cup salad with tuna
S - Taco dip made with greek yogurt and 10 soy crisps
D - sauteed zucchini, spinach and tomato wedges with ricotta cheese

Muah WETEO's!

Almost forgot to ask, I read something the other day about a WETEO outing in Myrtle Beach.  Are there any details yet?

Carmel was taking a survey trying to see what the best date will be, but it still looks like June. When she has more details in stone, you will be reading ALOT about it!!!  Hope you and all the other newbies can make it next year!!!!  There are some pics on some of our profiles of this years festivities.

Sounds good; bu****ch out! You never know when and where I'll turn on the ol' video cam! Becky was totally fabulous that night (as always). She rocks!

And she's right; I need to get with the travel agent who is helping us to see which weeks we can get the best deals. But the survey is split three ways right now. If anyone wants to be on the get-together list and take part in the survey, send me a note along with your e-mail address.
