Lora, you are reprimanding people on at least two threads for mentioning that you are coming across as a heartless, greedy, self-centered tightwad.   If ONE person makes such a comment, it could be their perception  When the commenters increase in number, it might be your mirror.

Its actually a GREAT answer. Did you take a look at the original video of this thread at all?

Govt run programs dont need to take any profit out of the pool and therefore any monies going towards profit currently could be redirected to health care itself.

I do live in a socialized/nationalized/universal care (whatever you want to call it) program. In Sweden EVERYONE has access to it. I dont pay premiums, I pay via taxes. I pay a small co-pay when I go see the doctor (it comes to about $20 per visit) and I pay a small co-pay for prescriptions ($5). I also have a card that I get marked each time I go to the doctor because there is a max amount to pay for the year and if I exceed that amount then I will pay zero for visits.

I choose my own doctor. I can change anytime I wish. I can get 2nd and 3rd opinions. I even chose who I am getting my RNY from which I will be doing on monday. So far for my RNY related appts I have paid out a total of $80. That includes my nutrition classes, tests, doctors visits and a group session to discuss our "feelings" and get info on support groups or therapy available. I have a nutritionist as well and that is also covered under our socialized/nationalized/universal care program.

I havent had any extreme wait time either. I went to ask for the referral back in sept 2008 and am getting actual surgery august 09. Thats just shy of 1 year. In that year I have done my tests, my nutritionist classes, seen my anethesiologist and attended a group session to discuss our emotional state and get info on where to seek group therapy or individual therapy post op.

To those of you that oppose a health care bill....

What is your solution?

Why shouldn't more ( ALL)  Americans have access to AFFORDABLE healthcare?

Why should only those that work for large corporations or the govt be able to have insurance?  Because that is about what it has come down to.   My father owned a small business ...and he was lucky enough to be able to provide insurance for his family and employees,  but it wasn't easy.  And I know many....MANY other people that work for small businesses that can't get insurance through their employer and can't afford a policy on their own.
Is that right?   They aren't deadbeats sitting on their porch drinking a beer while we all slave to take care of them.  They are hardworking people.  Why shouldn't they have an affordable option?  Someone tell me WHY?   I don't understand the thought process.....how hard hearted are you?

Do you think that more people would drain your resources?   How selfish and foolish of you.

1.  if more people had an affordable option,  more people would be paying SOMETHING in....thus lightening the burden on the rest of us already paying in.
2.  people might get treated for things BEFORE they become a medical catastrophe ....thus saving everyone money in the long run.
3.  ERs wouldn't be so backed up because people could go to a dr.'s office for care
4.  For God's sake....isn't it the humane,  and ETHICAL thing to do?

bbbbut...but......"when I pay taxes to run the fire department, they are there when I need them (not anyone else??)!  But if I pay taxes for medicare, I'm paying for someone else's healthcare!"

???  WHAT??

That's the kind of logic we're dealing with here.  And these people aren't afraid to speak out and make complete fools of themselves, evidently!   Well, I guess SOME of them are as they block me right after replying.....

I don't get it.   I really don't.

What we have NOW doesn't work.  We have fewer insured people....and those that DO have insurance..pay more and have less coverage.

It's a no brainer...more people paying IN to the system.....better for everyone.

And again.....it's the right thing to do.
Personally....I'd rather have a little less coverage...if it meant that everyone could have SOME.  But that's just me.
And I don't think that is what would happen either.....just sayin'...........

I can't believe how MEAN people are.   It's not like this is the difference between people living in a manufactured home vs a mansion....luxury vs  economy.   Healthcare is a basic neccessity.   Why would we deny people an affordable option?
