This is getting me really nervous.  I already had a lot of problems with my hair pre-op - I cannot afford to lose any more.  I think people on the board have said that this usually happens in post op 3-6 months.  I am on week 6.  I already use Rogaine ... maybe that will help.  Can someone just lie to me and tell me yes?  :)

hi like u i had very serious hair problems before my surgery cuz i have PCOS and its a side efect u know our hormones being a mees and sturf. and my surgeron told me the same thing about not worry about that. he told me it was more importatn to take care of my weight 1th!.
ok so, i did experiment a lil of hair loss but nothing like the other people here describers like hand full of hairs and stuf fi guess is proportional, cuz mine was so thin i didn´t even notice it.
i'm starting losing some again (18 months out) but my hormones are a mess again so i have to take care of that. but  i don´t think it would be as bad as you thing.
good luck!

I'm five months today. All I can say on this subject is, it will happen and no one has every gone compleely bald. Mine thinned so much that I cut it short. From below my shoulders to just below my earlobs. It made a big difference in appearance. And since I was keeping it pinned up pretty tight for work, I figured that not pinning it up would help too. It is growing in slowly, but the hairdresser did comment about all my baby hairs.

Taking biotin and zinc may help. I take both. Can't hurt. And you may also find that your fingernails get a little wacky too, those supplements are supposed to help that too.

Yes, hair loss for me was very alaeming as well!  It came out in clumps, although I never got any bald patches, etc.. Just noticebly (mainly to me) thinning hair.  I am 6 months post op - 93 lbs down - and it has just started to slow down a bit. so that's a good sign.  I used a hair care system called Nioxin and I take Biotin.  All docs say none of this prevents hair loss from happening and I do think that it varies with each person as to how much, etc, but I also think it doesn't hurt.  What these products do is make the hair you do have be the healthiest it can be.  I think that is important.  Another thing on this subject is that I used ot have very curly hair (so curly people would htink I got perms, but I didn't) and now my hair is straight as a pin - not even a little body.

So, while it is disturbing, I look at it this way - I can't control it, so no use freaking out.  And so far it's definitely better than still carrying around an additional 93 pounds (and counting!)

Be encouraged - it will end soon!
Blessings,
Kim

This is totally normal. Your hair will come back. It's actually new hair that's pushing the old stuff out.

You can Google "telogen effluvium" and learn more about this phenomenon.

Same here.  We're helpless because there is nothing we can do about it.  Mine just started coming out in clumps.  But, we knew this going in ..... right?  And then when it happens -- well, that's another story.
