Wendys Chili...
Yes, I know it is high in carbs. But here are some of the reason for eating it early on. #1. They are good carbs. #2. Add cheese to help with the texture and add more protein. #3. You only should have 1-2oz at a time. #4. It is great for breakfast when you need to eat and run...people do get on the run post op with life. #5. The meat is good for protein and iron. The tomatoes and bell peppers help with the iron absorption (Vitamin C)...Also the tomatoes and lima beans are high in potassium...which is important for the sodium-potassium exchange...electrolites when dehydration occurs...(the #1 reason RNY patients reenter the hospital is dehydration). #6. The fiber can help with constipation...keeping you regular. Wendy's Chili is not a magic cure...it's just not all that bad of a choice for someone a few weeks or mouths out. Brian
Trust me, I eat on the run more days than not! That is one reason it is still a "go to" food for me. I have learned to eat it rather well while driving...lol!!! We could be making lots worse choices than Wendy's Chili!!

I'll weigh in on this. I do believe my blood type could easily have been WC (for "Wendy's" Chili) for a while, especially the first year after my RNY. My nutritionist suggested it early on as a fast food alternative; and it was always a real pouch pleaser for me.
You can always make your own version of it at home. I found a great recipe and posted it on my OH blog (January 5th, 2009). Enjoy!
Interesting to read the different opinions on chili...it's actually a very healthy and tasty source of protein, fiber and good carbs! Make your own (many possibilities, lots of yummy versions!) or buy it out...I know that Wendy's small chili is a great alternative on the road; I eat half at almost six months post-op though I think I could eat it all. My nut also recommended this for early post-ops. Guess it depends on your nut and your theories, but I'm very happy to have chili in my life (dollop some Greek yogurt on top as a sour cream sub for extra protein & tang!).

I have seen numerous postings of people consuming Wendys Chili some even in the very early stages. Well the nutritional value of this item is a big NO NO. I know this item is not in my food guide that the NUT gave me prior to surger, not that I have tried to eat Wendys Chili. A Wendys Chili (s) has 21 grams of carb and 5 grams of sugar 6 grams of fat. 200 calories.
Here is a listing of the items within the CHILI- Ground Beef being #1
Small Chili
Ground Beef, Chili Base (tomatoes, salt, citric acid, calcium chloride), Chili Seasoning (sugar, salt, modified corn starch, chili pepper, onion powder, spices, dextrose, garlic powder, citric acid, disodium inosinate & guanylate, xanthan gum, autolyzed yeast extract, soybean oil, caramel color, extractives of paprika, malic acid, red 40, natural and artificial flavor, silicon dioxide [anticaking agent]), Kidney Beans (kidney beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, natural flavorings, onion powder, calcium chloride, disodium EDTA [to protect taste]), Chili Beans (beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, natural flavorings, onion powder, calcium chloride), Vegetable Mix (onions, celery, green peppers).

If you are in the blended stages, there is no justifiable reason for you to be eating Wendys Chili, just because it can be blended does not mean it is ideal to eat. This is a food item to resume to eat when you have reached 75% weight loss, when you are in the maintence stage.
Let's try not to get off track so early in this journey. I made the mistake of eating a baked potato, and I know now that was wrong and I will never do it again. Sometimes it takes a big wake up call to get back on track.
We disagree. Carbs are not all created equal. Carbs from beans are healthy carbs. It has fiber, protein, it's easy to eat.
Newbies in the healing stage... to be honest I don't care what they eat while they are healing as long as they don't bump up the stages of the diet. It's not really a time for weight loss but healing instead.
Somewhere I have a clone recipe for Wendy's chili and I ran it through here:

This site creates an extremely complete food label and chili is very good for you. The only thing this site suggested was replacing ground beef with turkey due to fat content.
Sorry, we disagree big time on this one.
