When will I feel "Normal" again?

I am 3 weeks out of my RNY, and mysurgeon swore that I would feel better the day after surgery than I ever had before surgery. I gotta admit, I love the weight loss, but I have zero energy, and everyday it is a challenge to pull myself out of bed. Also, I'm still not allowed even mushy food, but I don't think of food a lot, but I have NO ENERGY!!! When will my energy return??? Is this the life I have chosen for myself, to feel sick all the time? any advice would be appreciated!!

I have heard many people say they have so much energy that they could blow the roof off of a building.  But unfortunately, I have never experienced that.  I am almost 6 months out and altho I do well with work and things that need to be done, I don't have a boost of energy.  Actually I am tired all the time!
At first I thought it was because my labs were low and I was vitamin deficient.  Now that those look good, I have no idea.  Then I thought it might be that winter is here and its cold, rainy and blah outside.  I asked my doctor to put me on antidepressants to try that.  Although I don't think I am depressed, I do have alot going on in my life at the moment anything is worth a try!
I hope you find you get to feeling better.  I wish I had some answers for you!

It's normal to feel tired for a few weeks after surgery.  I'm sorry your surgeon told you differently.  Are you getting enough protein?  That will help with the energy.

i know i am not getting enough protein because I was throwing up the protein so much, they backed me off of it. I'm supposed to re-incorporate it in, but I gag.....

OK, you need to try some different protein drinks then, so you can find one you can tolerate.  You can get samples of a lot of different drinks at www.vitalady.com.  You might also want to try Isopure, which you can get at GNC.  You're going to feel tired if your not getting enough protein.

I had a terrible time getting my protein after my surgery.  For about the first three months, I didn't get enough.  And I was exhausted all the time and felt weak and sick.  I also lost a LOT of hair.  It is normal to feel tired anyway, but I bet you will feel better if you start getting your protein.

It took me about a month or 2 to get my energy back and I was only on liquids for a week and then went to mushy and increase as able to tolerate in the first month and then pretty much what I could tolerate after that.  I did find that if I did get in a little excersise that that helped increase my energy even if it was just walking around the house.  Just remember that it will all be worth it in the long run.

Remember your B12  injections or sublingual pill. B-12 helps with energy since after rny we don't absorb it anymore... Good Luck ----> Sal - CT

my b-12 levels were actually high prior to surgery, and I don't have sublingual pills. What are sublingual pills?

B12 supplements come in several forms, including a sublingual pill.  You put it under your tongue and let it dissolve.  Even though your B12 was high prior to surgery, you will most likely need a supplement now.  We can't absorb much B12 at all from food that we eat after RNY.
