Been experimenting with protein...tastes like "Starbucks"
So.. I've been experimenting with my protein because I'm tired of trying to choke that mess down everyday. Today I used 1/2 cup of ice, 12 oz of Light Vanilla Silk soymilk (I'm lactose intolerant), 2 packets of Splenda flavors for coffee Mocha (thank you SO much melting mama! for the recommendation) and 1 Tbsp of General Foods Cafe Vienna ad 2 scoops of 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein. Mixed it in my blender. Hmmm...Not too bad...tastes a little like a Frappicino! I just put it in the freezer a little longer for more ice crystals.
I added everything up, and it's a little high on the calories, I guess because my protein has 120 calories per scoop. But I'm only on stage III foods and not getting much protein. And I'm supposed to drink half in the morning and half in the evening. It's a little easier to get down for me. Yay!
Calories: 382.5
Fat: 6.5 g
Sat Fat: 2.5 g
Carbs: 23.5 g
Protein: 57 g
Edited to say that that's Sugar free Cafe Vienna

Sounds good. I make a protein shake with skim milk, a scoop of vanilla protein powder, and a packet of General Foods International sugar free vanilla latte mix that I like a lot. In fact, I think I'm gonna go make one in just a minute!
Mine only has like 200 calories, though. I wouldn't want to use over 300 calories on a protein shake. Plus, I was told we can only absorb 40 grams of protein at a time (although I know others were told different numbers, so I don't know what's true), so it might not be to your benefit to use two scoops of protein powder.

That sounds great! I was told the same thing about the protein--that's why my NUT says half in the morning and half in the afternoon. The skim milk probably has less calories too...Will that work for lactose intolerance? I'm afraid to drink regular milk anymore. I have terrible pains; started a year ago.
Oh, duh! I missed the part about drinking half in the morning and half in the afternoon. Should have read more carefully. And in that case, you're really doing two shakes and they are less than 200 calories each. That sounds a lot better.
If you're lactose intolerant, then the skim milk would probably bother you. It still has lactose in it.

If you have a Vitamin Shoppe store in your area, try the protein
powder Lean Dessert Protein...I use the Chocolate and the Vanilla, no smell or after taste and they are really yummy. They have other flavors that you can order on line like cinnamon roll,
banana brad (i think that is what it's called ) it's a great product and mixes well too.
Also the Click protein powder is good too. with the protein from the milk and the protein in the powder (15 grams + 10 from the milk )thats good protein for a meal.
If you are lactose sensitive, try the lactaid pills, just one and you can use skim milk with out the issues. They work great and the calcium in the milk is good for your bone health, something that you don't really get enough of from the soy milk...

I brew decaf coffee, pour a cup and let it cool down a bit. Then I add a little 1/2 & 1/2; one scoop of EAS Vanilla protein powder, 1 tsp benefiber and 2 Tbls DaVinci Sugarfree Hazelnut, pour all into a stainless steel coffee tumbler and give it a good hard shake for a few minutes--IT IS GOOD. Most of the time, I'll drink about 1/2 warm, then freeze the rest. When I come home from work, I move to the fridge, so by the time dinner is done, and kids are in bed; then I can take it out, give it a good shake, and have an iced latte for my dessert :0)
