Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup Review.
Hershey's Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup
Short product review here.
Bitter as hell.
The end.
Okay, I always feel bad for a icky review. But, I want to like this. It's easy to find in the stores, it's sugar-free, it's chocolate, and it should be PERFECT for what I am looking for: TASTY SUGAR FREE CHOCOLATE without a ton of intestinal effects from sugar alcohols.
Nutrition facts: serving size 2 tbsp (32g) servings per container about 16, calories 15, total fat 0g, sodium 50mg, total carbohydrate 5g, sugars 0, sugar alcohols 4g, protein 0g.
But. It's not. This syrup is watery, not deeply chocolate flavored, and is bitter. It's not bitter as in bitter-sweet, it's just bitter. The syrup is sweetened with erythritol, which is typically better than most other 'ols in terms of Side Effects and taste, but not in this formulation.
Ingredients: water, erythritol, glycerin, cocoa, natural flavors, citric acid, xanthan gum, salt, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, caramel color, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, vanillin, artificial flavor, zinc sulfate vitamin e acetate, niacinamide and biotin.
Wikipedia can teach you:
In the body, erythritol is absorbed into the bloodstream in the small intestine, and then for the most part excreted unchanged in the urine. Because erythritol is normally absorbed before it enters the large intestine, it does not normally cause laxative effects as are often experienced after over-consumption of other sugar alcohols (such as xylitol and maltitol) and most people will consume erythritol with no side effects. This is a unique characteristic, as other sugar alcohols are not absorbed directly by the body in this manner, and consequently are more prone to causing gastric distress [3].
