Vitamins and Unemployment

As of Oct 28th, I joined the ranks of many in the unemployment line.  Because of this, I have had to cut my vitamin intake way down, trying to spread a days dose over 3 days in order to make them last longer.  Vitamins are a priority when having WLS, but it isn’t really a “choice”.

I’ve had a lot of time to be creative this holiday season, and my whole family will be receiving homemade gifts.  My parent’s are getting an expensive gift, but to get that, I sat through a 2hr vacuum demonstration LOL.

Just an update.  I talked with my surgeon's office and will be receiving my vit's in a day or so.  My surgeon's office said the form for them to fill out from bariatric advantage couldn't have been simpler.  Thank you all so much for telling me about this program.

Bariatric Advantage offers a program to help people who can't afford their vitamins.  You might want to contact them and ask about it.  There's some sort of form you have to have your doc fill out.  I do understand that vitamins are expensive, and if you just don't have the money then you just don't have the money, but only taking one third of what you're supposed to take is pretty risky.  When you develop serious deficiencies, that's going to end up costing you a lot.  And some deficiencies can cause permanent damage, like B12 deficiency.

I feel for you, I lost my job months ago and worry that some day in the near future I will have to make tough choices also.  I ran into this info recently through meltingmama.net maybe this could help you.

this is a vital part of wls that people don't realize,  many think of vitamins as before,  optional and cheap.    what is the cost typically for  post op wls?,
I'm still pre op, and fortunately get all my vitamins provided to me free.  even though I take a lot now.

They aren't really expensive.  I'm at the point now where I can swallow the petite calcium pills and don't have to special order etc.

I guess what I mean to say, is that they aren't expensive---when you have a paycheck coming in.

I will always pay my mortgage first, and after that, I have about 200 bucks left of unemployment income to pay the heat, electricity, car ins......and thankfully I don't eat that much anyway ;o)

It's do-able, but you have to be a very creative corner cutter.
