With RNY they close off part of your stomach and create a "pouch". We no longer have a fully functioning stomach. My husband hates calling it a pouch though....he has "pouch aggression". If I want to get at him, I tell him I have a grouchy pouch haha...the look on his face is funny.

Call it whatever makes you happy, I say!

Seriously, it's because you no longer have a whole stomach anymore--no pyloric valve to regulate food flow. It's more like a sac that temporarily holds food.
