protein drink after WLS

I was told to continue to drink protein for the rest of my life after wls.  My daughter is considering surgery and her Doctor told her to use a protein supplement for 6 months after surgery.  After that she would receive sufficient protein out of her food.  What seems to be the correct answer?
Thanks

ah  Ha... one of the many conundrums of WLS... there is no way to say who is right or wrong answer to this.... each doctor has his/her on protocol.... what is important is that you follow YOUR doctor's rules.... once you get further and further out you can decide what works for you..... there are lots of people on here who couldn't tolerate protein drinks and have always gotten all they're protein from the foods they ate.... there are others who supplement almost exclusively.... it's a matter of working WITH your tool to determine what works best for you... but until you're complete healed and on the right path (usually 6 months or so)... you need to follow your doctor's orders....

I can tell you my experience. My surgeon has made it clear that he wants me off the protein shakes asap. He wants the protein to come from my diet.

This early out, it seems daunting to me as I can't eat much of anything and I depend on at least one drink a day to meet my numbers. But I will forge ahead and try to do it...but I think it will take a while to get there.

It depends on what you or your daughter eat.  Some people get enough protein from their food.  Some don't.  You need to count the grams of protein in your food and see.  If you're getting 60 - 80 grams from food, you don't need the supplement.  If you're getting less than 60 - 80 grams from food, you need the supplement.

Hi all ! I did try every kind of protein supplement out there i got sick from every one . Wasted alot of money but i had to try them. So after 3 months i gave up on them. I'm almost at my 1 year out the 28th of this month. I'm doing ok never had any problems just a week out of surgery had a few kindey stone's.

My dietician wants me to get all my protein from food --- I told her no, I enjoyed my shakes and thats what I do.    She also said I only need 50-60g protein per day and I prefer 90-120g.

There is no correct answer here -- although I think its pretty common that 50g is about the lowest you should get per day - regardless of how you get it.  I probably COULD get enough protein from food now, I just choose not too - I LOVE my shakes.
