Excessive Sneezing since Dec 19 - is it my CPAP machine?
I don't feel like I have a cold, but I've been taking a little bit of cold medicine here and there, but I can't seem to shake this sneezing. It's almost like the inside of my nose, if I move wrong it gives me that pre-sneeze tickle and then I just sneeze and sneeze and sneeze. When I'm sleeping with my CPAP machine, my throat has been so much dryer (this is my first winter with a CPAP). I've tightened it up so it doesn't seem like there is any seepage.
If I put it on two high of a setting, it seems like I'm getting too much air, so maybe I'll try to sleep with it on a lower setting? This morning I felt "filled up" with the air from the machine. I felt kind of bloated, but feel fine now (I've had time to get rid of the farts lol). Still having my sneezing fits. I've tried cleaning the parts better, thinking that it could be dust mites, but that didn't seem to make a difference either?
Anyone else having these problems? How long or how much weight had you lost before you had a new sleep study done for yourself?
I'm half tempted to stop using it for a week to see if it fixes the sneezing issues.

Ongoing sneezing, hickups, throwing up and many other strange things can happen when the VAGUS nerve, the most central of our nerves, is somehow irritated. And unfortunately, it's not necessarily easy to "un-irritate it". It's probably time to talk to your doc. Sometimes an anti-anxiety drug helps calm that crazy nerve, if that's the problem.

Editorial note: I really do know how to spell VAGUS but I have a bad habit of not stopping to think and self-edit when I'm in a hurry.
Well, that's not that easy to answer, I'm afraid. I suffered with what they call "Machine gun sneezing" for a year or so. I tried allergy medications, Afrin, acupuncture and nothing helped. I think in my case that only time was what worked. And, believe me, I was about ready to call it a day!!!! I chipped my tooth from sneezing so hard. I passed out and bit my tongue really hard, too. It sounds so ridiculous, but when you're going through it, it's not funny at ALL! I know!
I'd say that you should try not using your cpap for a little while to see if maybe that helps. My layperson theory is that your diaphragm is reacting to something, perhaps. Research Vagus Nerve symptoms and see what you can find, too.
You might try a heating pad on your abdomen when it's really bad. Sometimes it can calm the nerves enough for some relief.

If you have any polyps in your nose, it can also cause that itchy nonstop sneezy feeling. I take a combo of Singulair and loratadine... and that finally helped. But, initially when I tried JUST allergy medication, they didn't do anything at all. Try the heating pad under your ribs where the diaphragm is the next time you have the sneezes. If it helps, you'll know that your diaphragm is most likely affected.
Here's to no sneezing!
